It is time to nominate some books for our next Group read(s) for the spring of 2015.

If you nominate a book, be willing to lead the discussion of the book if your book is selected.

So what would you like to nominate for our next Group read? These can be new releases, older releases, popular books, thought provoking books, etc.

We will be running a poll in a few weeks to select our next group reads from the books nominated.

Great choices so far. Anyone else want to throw something out for consideration? Be brave! We don't bite! And leading a discussion is not a scary as it may sound. :-)

Irene (irene918) | 1016 comments I don't mind leading it if someone wants to nominate a book and you don't want to lead the discussion.

That is a very sweet offer, Irene! :-)
So anyone that wants to nominate and is worried about leading, Irene will lead for you. Just mention it when you nominate.

Irene (irene918) | 1016 comments Sheila I will not be offended if you have to eliminate any of the books. I might have nominated too many. ☺

I've eliminated the ones we have already read, and then put us down to an even 10 for voting! :-)

I will get a poll up momentarily.

Okay, poll is up. Follow this link:

https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1...

to vote for the book you would prefer to read and discuss. Poll will run through April 1st, and we will read and discuss the top two in May and June!

Daniale Lynch | 148 comments um.... is anyone else getting the "who is cooler" pool when they follow the link?

Hmm, if your device is cutting off the link, and just leaving http.//www.goodreads.com/poll without the rest of it, you will get the Who is Cooler poll, as that is the first poll that was ever created here on Goodreads, but the founders of the website. LOL!

I'm going to try adding the Goodreads official widget info to the next post, to see if I can get the actual poll itself to post in this thread.

Only a couple days left in the vote, and the votes are spread out across the board. If you haven't voted, please vote soon, or if you have voted and would like to consider some other book to read, feel free to change your vote in the next day or two! Again, we will read the top two vote getters, or we will have a run off vote to get winners if needed.

Well we ended up with THREE top vote getters, so our next three Group Reads, for the spring and summer of 2015, will be:

The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd
The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd

The Pearl that Broke Its Shell by Nadia Hashimi
The Pearl that Broke Its Shell by Nadia Hashimi

and

Beloved by Toni Morrison
Beloved by Toni Morrison

I like all these choices, and think they will give us an interesting and varied variety of books to read and discuss!

message 27: by Daniale (new)

Daniale Lynch | 148 comments Thanks Sheila! Will that be the order? May: Invention of Wings, June: Pearl, July: Beloved?

message 28: by Sheila , Supporting Chick (new)

Sheila | 3485 comments Mod
Invention of Wings got the most votes so we will do it first in May. The other two tied for second place, so we can do them in the order that everyone prefers. :-)

Daniale Lynch | 148 comments Sweet, thanks! Library, here I come!

message 30: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W | 2175 comments We seem to be an indecisive group of late. :) I may try to join in with Beloved.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) I haven't read the first two and I read Beloved. I didn't care for Beloved.

message 32: by Daniale (new)

Daniale Lynch | 148 comments I feel the same way, Jayme. I read Beloved in college and didn't like it. But maybe if I read it now I'll have a different perspective? We'll see. I'll most likely join in the conversation anyway.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) Maybe I will give it another try.

Jennifer W wrote: "We seem to be an indecisive group of late. :) I may try to join in with Beloved."

I don't mind though, because then it selects several months worth of books so I don't have to keep polling every month! LOL Gives us a nice variety too. :-)

message 35: by Irene (new)

Irene (irene918) | 1016 comments I think it's a good idea to do it this way, too. I will make the schedule for discussion. I will also create different threads for each part of the book.

message 36: by Irene (new)

Irene (irene918) | 1016 comments I'm excited
