Fishface | 18889 comments Two in one day, in one book.

I set aside The Serial Killer's Apprentice because the stuff about the child trafficking ring was getting a bit much. I went to Reddit and there was a post about the same child trafficking ring, right at the top.

The book then pivoted to talk about the Ranes brothers, mentioning a crime one of them committed on July 5th. I started reading this book yesterday: July 5th.

Fishface | 18889 comments I was at Reddit and someone asked for song recommendations. The song I suggested was "The Passenger." Then I got in my car to leave and the very first song that came on, out of my 82-hour playlist, was "The Passenger."

Fishface | 18889 comments Half an hour ago I was at Reddit and someone asked for a movie recommendation. I said they should watch GREEN ROOM which stars Anton Yelchin. Then I went to my news app and found this story staring me in the face:

Star Trek actor's agonizing 'lingering' death after disturbing accident at his home - The Mirror US https://share.google/AznKhIQBFdetW2kDw

It was a retrospective on the untimely death of Anton Yelchin.

Fishface | 18889 comments OK, this morning I finished a book about the murder of a woman in Essex, New York. The town was mentioned many times in the book. So I moved on to the next book and the first place they mention is Essex, England.

Fishface | 18889 comments There's no getting away from it. Right now the ONLY news story I am seeing is about the demands to release the Epstein files and the flailing attempts to avoid doing that.

So I opened a completely unrelated TC book and immediately started a new chapter about a guy named Maxwell falling off the back of his yacht, called the Lady Ghislaine.

It just got weirder. I mentioned this to a friend at Threads who informed me that the guy who fell off his yacht -- Robert Maxwell -- was Ghislaine Maxwell's father. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

Koren (koren56) | 1603 comments Reading in the car as hubby is driving. At the same moment he told me my car had turned over to 60,000 miles I read this in my book...sixty thousand acres of hay fields and cattle ranges...

Koren (koren56) | 1603 comments Reading The Idaho Four: An American Tragedy. There were no pictures in the book and I kept reading about the killers 'pop eyes' so I googled a picture of him. We were staying in a hotel and the next morning I saw a guy that looked a lot like the killer, only 40 years older but had the same 'pop eyes'.

Hmm, but that would force me to overcome me my discomfort in posting my phone number on the Net

Fishface | 18889 comments I am reading a book that has an important character named Covey. Then I noticed online just now that I really enjoy the snarky online posts of a guy with the Internet handle Covie.

Fishface | 18889 comments Added two new crimes to my anniversary book in the last 2 days. They both happened on August 10th.

Fishface | 18889 comments I am in the middle of the 2nd book I have read on the Children of God, and Jerry Pence -- former Fleetwood Mac guitarist who joined the cult and disappeared -- has now been mentioned in both of those books.

Well, I was just reading my weekly news magazine, which always has a few obituaries in the back. One of them is for a high-powered attorney named -- you guessed it -- Gerry Spence. Only instead of being a religious weirdo child molester, this guy has defended the Ruby Ridge guy, Randy Weaver, and Imelda Marcos in their court cases, and also won a hefty judgment against Kerr-McGee in the death of Karen Silkwood. Among many others.

Fishface | 18889 comments Tonight at work I listened slack-jawed as a co-worker told me about how they haven't been able to get justice for a murdered relative, because of a problem with the evidence. She told me the guy is already in the slammer for a very similar crime and I looked him up. The date of the offense they got him on was Sept 4th. Tomorrow is also Sept 4th.

Fishface | 18889 comments Here's a gobsmacker. I learned about a survivor of Tony Atkins in THE CRACK CITY STRANGLER: The Homicides of Serial Killer Benjamin Atkins. Her name is Margie. It says here that the friend who introduced Margie to crack cocaine -- the reason Margie crossed paths with Atkins in the first place -- was later found dead on the East side of Detroit and is thought to be a possible victim of DeAngelo Martin, a different serial killer.

AND. ALSO. Annetta Nelson, the woman killed by DeAngelo Martin and later dragged out to the curb by a homeless guy who wanted to sleep in the crime scene -- Annetta is Margie's cousin.

(shudder)

Fishface | 18889 comments OK, I have been reading all day about the victims of Tony Atkins, one of whom is Juanita Hardy. I just got through looking at the artist's impression of her face and wondering if it was anything like her true appearance.

Also boning up just now on my new phone, I typed in the word "just" and AutoDistort changed it to "Juanita."

It just happened again. I pulled up a Bill Maher video on YouTube and when that ended, I watched the next one that came up and first thing they mentioned the word "Monterey." Juanita Hardy was found dead in the Monterey Motel.

Koren (koren56) | 1603 comments I was watching an old game show called Temptation this morning. One of the puzzles is kind of like the show Wheel Of Fortune. The answer was Happy Birthday To You. Today is my birthday!

Wow! And happy birthday!

Koren (koren56) | 1603 comments Another birthday coincidence that happened quite a while ago, at least 10 years ago. Reading our local newspaper an obit caught my eye because she was a young person and there was a picture of the woman and she was very pretty. She lived a half hour away but at one time lived in my area. Reading the obit, I read that she was born the same day, same year as me IN THE SAME HOSPITAL!!! So even though I did not know her, I felt sad that I had met her on my first day of life.

Fishface | 18889 comments I just saw this at Reddit and posted it in Headlines. Charlie Kirk, who has said that a few gun deaths are necessary to protect the Second Amendment, has been shot & killed by someone who is still at large. he was actually answering a question about mass shootings when he was struck by the bullet.

In a sense, he asked for this. I feel bad for his kids, though who were in attendance at the speaking engagement when he was shot.

Fishface | 18889 comments Kind of a gross one. A client of mine was eating french fries until she went to the wastebasket, leaned over it and ralphed. I came home and turned on the movie I didn't finish last night, and the main character leaned over and ralphed, then immediately went out and are a lot of french fries.

I was on "Not Always Right" and the story was set in Arkansas. While reading it my father sent me a text. My father is from Arkansas.

Fishface | 18889 comments I'm reading a book by an author I never heard of before, Herman Raucher. Someone at Reddit just asked if there is a novel explaining the story behind the song "Ode To Billy Joe" and Google informs me that Herman Raucher wrote that very book, Ode to Billy Joe.
