Yay - this is so exciting, Mela! I'm glad you were able to get yourself into a position to moderate and organize the group.
The one suggestion that I would make is to use folders to organize the group. I moderate an Agatha Christie group, and if you think it would be helpful, you can look at how I've organized the folders:
https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...
Generally, I have a "housekeeping" folder where I keep the social threads, and then I have some organizational folders:
Monthly reads: this is where I keep the threads for our ACTIVE monthly reads.
Project folder: for 2023, we have a separate folder for Mysteries of the 1940's, which is sort of a theme for the year.
Organizational folder: this is where I have the threads to nominate/discuss potential group side reads (or main group read is already predetermined b/c we are reading Christie in order, one book per month).
Buddy reads thread: probably self-explanatory
Links & resources: this is a folder where I encourage people to post reference books, articles, biographical information about Agatha Christie, her adaptations, etc.
Archive threads: I never close or delete anything, I just move the prior book threads into a different folder once it is out of the active discussion schedule.
For this group, you might also want to consider a "Member Threads" folder, in case people want to track their VMC reading within the group.

Many to think through, Christine. Thank you a lot!
I am going to ask you more specific questions in a private message.
One thing here, about folders for discussion about read books - generally I wanted to "stay true to the original" (what was set earlier in the group), and stay with the method, separate folders for different writers because many writers have more than one book on the VMC list, and I think it an easy way to search for discussion later. I don't say it is the best solution. I would like to know what other members of the group think of such a way of order.

I thought it through and decided that more understandable will be order like:
--> General discussions about how the group works
--> Discussions about books we are currently reading
--> Discussions about the books we read a month earlier (this way those members who read a bit later that the group will find threads easily)
--> Nominations
--> Various discussions about the VMC books
--> Buddy reads
--> Discussions about books we have already read (here I will move all discussions about books after a month, from the folder "We have recently read")
--> and Archive with all old discussions (before reopening the group), except for a few threads about read books.

Do you think we should have an "open reading" thread, for people to post about their current read?
In addition, I'm wondering if we want to have a "similar publishers" thread somewhere in the group, where members can talk about other publishers/books that they have found that publish same/similar books to the VMCs, such as Persephone, NYRB classics, or Dean Street Press imprint Furrowed Middlebrow?

Not sure, I must think about it. But I think the group should stay as a VMC group.
There is Persephone group already (I am reading with them too).
I also see that there exists NYRB classics - I didn't know this series. Unfortunately, it looks like they stopped reading.
Dean Street Press books look quite similar to VMC. Perhaps when we read all of VMC we will add DSP.

Of course.
I can make a thread "VMC books you plan for 2024" (in a folder Various - about the VMC books) - and here everyone could put their own list and change it when one reads something from the list, etc. Would that be ok? Or do you have a different idea?
PS There is a thread about how many VMC books we have already read.

It might also lead to some buddy reads. Last year, in another group I said I was reading Read Pottage by Mary Chomondeley for Victober. A few others also had a copy and we buddy read it. I would never have put it forward for a group read as it is no longer easily available, but some of us had found secondhand copies, and it was an enjoyable buddy read. Most of my VMCs are secondhand, so I do end up with a random selection.

Here is the thread.
Here is the thread.
One year of moderating the group I decided to make some changes to simplify and make current threads easier to find. The new structure (of folders) is:
--> General discussions about how the group works
--> Discussions about books we are currently reading (a monthly read from polls and a buddy-read)
--> Current nominations (for polls and one thread with our yearly plan for buddy-reads)
--> Various discussions about the VMC books
--> Discussions about books we have already read
--> Old nominations
--> and Archive with all old discussions (before reopening the group, i.e. before May 2003).

I am for the first time a moderator of the GR group. I am still learning and working on a way to make our group enjoyable and yet tidy. I am open to any advice.
