Why aren't the Top Librarian Lists running any more?

GR is overwhelming librarians. Yes, Jaclyn, I know you appreciate us. I feel less sure about upper management and the developers.

Thanks for bringing this up, Elizabeth. I'm also disappointed that the Top Librarian Lists aren't currently being updated.

These aren't the only lists not being updated - the alltime Reviewer for NZ hasn't been updated since July 5 2019 alltime World since June 20 2020

Maybe they could get rid of the meaningless ones or just have the weekly figures if there is too much strain on the servers?

The lists didn't run again today. I contact staff again. I'm paraphrasing here, but this is what I said.

I know I have reported this before. I will keep reporting it until they run again. The weekly list has not run since May 8, the monthly list not since May 15, the 12 months list not since May 8.

The answer below, is the same as last week. We know about it, blah, blah, blah.


Thank you for taking the time to write in about this! Our developers are aware of this issue and are working on fixing it. I’ve added your report to the developer ticket and I’ll let you know once it’s been resolved.

The lists for Australia are the same dates as New Zealand :(

Yes, I have written before on this subject.

The Librarian Lists All Time did not run again today. It last ran on May 19. Not addressing this is unsatisfactory.

They must have heard you. Those lists were updated June 5, 2023. (The same day librarian lists *should* have run, but didn't.)

The lists didn't run again today. Honestly, the "new" bot has created so much havoc for your unpaid staff, the least you could do is make sure that those who try to make sense of it are recognized.

I got a better answer from support this time:

Thanks for your email. I understand your frustration with the delay in resolving your issue in relation to the Librarian Lists not being updated regularly and I apologize for the wait.

In order for our technical team to provide a lasting effective solution, they require time to conduct in depth investigations into the matter. Unfortunately, this issue is proving more complex than anticipated and thus, taking longer to resolve.

I can confirm that the issue is being worked on and I will keep an eye on this for you. We thank you for your patience

No, sadly the lists I have mentioned still don't work properly. I am talking about the alltime lists only.

A friend of mine pointed out the Australian alltime hasn't updated since April 3, 2020.

Yep, I misread your post as Top Readers, not Top Reviewers.

By the way, the Top Readers list is pretty worthless anyway. Top Readers in the US this week? 1,344. No, no one read over 1000 books in a week. And that person's stats show fewer than 1000 books total.

The last time the weekly librarian lists ran in the US (and I assume everywhere) was May 8. Two months ago.

Yes, all the Australian librarian lists are various dates in May.

Perhaps GR doesn't want people to see how the librarian edits have decreased recently. I know mine have fallen dramatically.

The Portuguese librarian tops are also from 8th and 15th May 2023, with no updates since then.

It seems like ALL updates stopped on 15 May 2023, or shortly thereafter.

Shaking my head. It doesn't make sense that I am still listed in "Top librarians this week in The United States." I only made 23 edits in the past 7 days. And just 160 for July (so far). Sigh.

Yup, & the problems with Most popular 100 reviewers has now expanded to the weekly list for NZ & World. Didn't bother checking anything else.

Ha! Well they seem to have fixed that for the US. I was on it, briefly, and complained. I don't want to be on any of the lists other than the librarian lists. I don't import enough books! 😂

I think you are getting confused between the most popular reviewers (hasn't run in the States since July 26) https://www.goodreads.com/user/best_r...

Actually, I'm not. I was #64 on that Top Reviewers list, which I reported on July 26 was in error. It said I had reviewed 33 books in the week. Never going to happen!

I just ignore the top reviewer list which is meaningless.

Ah, I get it now. No, not on the most popular list either. And don't want to be. I'm not sure what all of that "most popular" stuff is about and who bothers with it. (Can you tell I've never looked at any of the Reviewer's lists?)

(And because there was a problem with the Top Reviewers list, I thought that's what you had referenced.)

I love being on it. & now that most popular reviews is long gone, it helps me find other NZ reviewers.

Fair enough. Most Popular Reviewers don't read what interests me. It's mostly YA stuff, or else Fantasy or Science Fiction.

But... all top librarians lists in China hasn't been updated since May.

None of them in any country have been updated since May.

OK, so this is my considered opinion.

Goodreads doesn't care. We're the unpaid staff and we can just go take a flying leap, that rewarding hard work isn't worth their time or energy.

Since 4(!) months have elapsed after post # 10 informing us that "the tech team required time to conduct in depth investigations into the matter", I contacted Support yesterday, inquiring about the progress and the present status of this issue.

I received a reply within hours, however little satisfactory and basically in the same wording as post #10:

The technical team is conducting in-depth investigations to ensure a lasting and effective solution. However, the complexity of the issue has resulted in a longer resolution time than anticipated. We assure you that we are dedicated to resolving this matter and providing a better user experience for our librarians.

We understand your concerns about the progress of the investigations, and we apologize for any frustration caused by the lack of updates. Rest assured that we are continually monitoring the situation and will provide updates as soon as they become available.

Doesn't matter as the results are incorrect. I have read 822 books, which should place me around 44-th place for my country, but I am not in the list at all. There is another long forgotten topic on the subject: https://help.goodreads.com/s/question...

Getting these lists working would be a small mark of appreciation for librarians. You never know some of the librarians who have left this group might come back!

So we should all stop working as librarians and all send complaints periodically until they respond

Both "most popular reviewers" and "top librarians" are not updated in Denmark.

I'm confused as to why some of the lists are updated and others aren't.

Would love for this to be a priority for the Goodreads Team.

I figured they were doing away with it. Someone like me who has a higher edit count than normal because of my thought processes would skew it. I am not doing anything more than anyone else, but I probably take twice as many steps to do it. When I first started I didn't realize that on the anthology page you didn't have to hit the name for each step. I was doing a lot of them and actually got a message stating that I had hit a limit of 3,000. My family of course thought that was hilarious.

It reminds me of 30 years ago when I delivered pizzas. We had a scoreboard with random things like the most boxes folded, fastest time to your car, etc. The problem was they also had "fastest run". I held that slot. When you are young you do stupid things. That run was definitely bad. It was in the middle of nowhere. I never EVER sped in the neighborhoods (in fact I always went under-35 MPH!! wth?), but those roads were fair game. If a tank had come across the road I would have been dead. This was AFTER Domino's had stopped there 30 minutes or free program. That was ended after lawsuits.

So yeah, I can see where the GoodReads might think it is a pointless program. I admit to being disappointed when I realized that I would never appear on it since it had stopped months prior.

Why aren't they fixing this? Top Librarian lists for my country have not been updated since May 08, 2023!

It has not been updated since then for everybody. There are various problems with almost all lists. Reported numerous times with no visible follow up. The most common response is: sent to the dev team.
