Nothing But Reading Challenges discussion

We have big shoes to fill. My first Wheel-a-thon team last year won it all. Can we do it again?! Let's definitely give it a great try!!
Hope you all are up for a chatty team. I can be quite chatty and I'm pretty much on my computer 24/7. My reading has slowed a little bit for me (new gaming PC) but I'll be making sure to read a ton for this challenge.
Looking forward to getting to know you all and reading lots of great books!! :)
Do any of you write BOM questions? No pressure if none of you do. I don't do Buddy Reads or BOM at all, because I tend to not read the same books everyone else is. So if none of you do either, that's totally fine with me. But if any of you regularly do BOM or write the questions, do let me know. We can have one member per book write questions for a bonus 20 points.
Other than that, we'll talk more strategy as we go on. You'll find I'm very accessible, so leave me messages here and I'll probably see it within the hour, or as soon as I get up if it's during the night. Or you can always message me.
Lets win this thing!! :D

I have never been on a chatty team, all of my last teams have been on the quite side so i'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and having a goo time. I am also pretty much on goodreads all the time.
I have never actually participated in any BOM, it was only trough Tower Teams that I started doing Buddy Reads which I found motivated me to read more. So I probably wont join any BOM's, but I will let you know if I change my mind.

My teams are almost always chatty. I'm willing to chat non-stop if everyone will talk back with me. If it gets quiet, I tend to get quiet after a while too, but hopefully it won't get that way this time. :)
No worries that you haven't done any BOM. I definitely don't care for them. We'll make up the extra 20 points by reading a lot!! :D
Oh, and it looks like our first word is "Goldenrod". Kerry-anne, Jane D & Brianna, you all are our lighter readers, so if you all can post the letter (or letters) you want, we'll make sure we get at least one read through. Then Mary, Stephanie and I can fill in for the first read-thru. After the first one, those of us reading multiple books will just need to keep an eye on the spreadsheet and what we will be needing to complete each read-thru of the word.

I'm like that, I love when everyone is talking but I go quiet if no one else is stops talking
I'm wondering if it is like last time and that any character in the book you are reading counts, even if the character only has one line?

I have a shelf I'm using to grab titles/authors with the letters we need and it's easier for me to find stuff that way than to wonder who is in what book. :) Right now, I have books on my shelf for 2 full read-thrus. :) I don't typically like to plan my books ahead, I'm more of a "fly-by-er", choosing as I go along, but for these, I don't mind a bit of a planning out and I can always change things around. I hope to get at least one more full set on my shelf to choose from.

What kind of format are we gonna have when we finish a book?
Maybe something like this:
Book: Catch a Ghost by S.E. Jakes
Date Read: 22/03/14
Color: No
BOM Q's: No
Letters: D - Character (Prophet Drews), E - Author

I'm also a compulsive list maker for these challenges. Just last night while I was walking my dog I was thinking about how I wanted to set up my list. I don't usually keep up with the list once the challenge starts but oh well.
I went back to school recently and so I will probably not be much help with the BOM stuff. I also may not be able to do more than one book in a week unless I have shorter audio books on hand that work for that week's theme.

None of those letters look too hard to find.

I'm the complete opposite of you both. Making a list usually means I WON'T read those books. But I have 27 so far (3 full read-thrus) so it's not tooooooo bad for me that way, a lot to choose from, plus whatever pops up that looks good to me. :)
That's close on the format, Stephanie. This is our Automatic Spreadsheet which I'm assuming will update itself, like it did for the Tower Teams?
I'll also make my own, which I'll send access to you all shortly. Some members love to enter their own info, because they like the spreadsheets, some members don't. So, it's up to you all individually. I can enter everyone's stuff (so we have a backup to the auto one) or you all can enter on your own.

Are you sure that it's an Automatic Spreadsheet, it doesn't look like it is. I could be wrong though.
I actually made my own for the tower teams challenge just to keep track of what I read, so i'm fine with updating my own books if I have access to it.

It's ok that you aren't a power reader anymore Mary, you can be one of the ones that chooses first. As long as you all have at least 1 book that you can do each word, then I can, and I'm sure Stephanie as a power reader can, fill in the rest.
Yes, we seem to have our first word and correct that you could start a book as long as it's finished on or after Mar 22nd.

You'll have to do updates in it. You'll get access later. Same with invite to captains group.

I'm still working on the spreadsheet we all can update, I'm tweaking it a bit, but will send it out soon. No worries if you don't want to update it yourselves, I'll keep on top of it. I like doing it, spreadsheets are fun. :)

I'm almost done with the spreadsheet, which I will send out to those of you who have checked in, and the others as they join in. There is NO pressure to add to it on your own, only if you want to, otherwise, I'll take care of it.

I have one already, if you can't find one. More than one is fine, but we only get points for one.

No problem, I've been wanting to read mine and just haven't gotten around to it, so I'm fine to do it. :)

I put my Yellow Cover in the list we have going. If anyone else has a yellow, feel free to do it, but if not, I can have it covered. Well, I'll see if I can use series names at all. I THOUGHT the name of the book was "EndGame" since it's in big freaking letters on the book. But apparently it's "The Calling" part of the EndGame series. Confusing. :)
See message 30 for our first read-thru and post what letter y'all want.

Sweet, didn't know if they were still going to allow it. Yay! Thanks. :)

We're still waiting on Jane D and Brianna to check in. Hopefully they will come join us soon.
Sounds good Stephanie. I don't know what I'll be starting closer to start time. I have two books I'm on now, I'll at least finish them before this starts. Maybe I'll start on the yellow cover after that, depends on when I finish my kindle book.
I always have 2 books going, sometimes more than that, but not usually. I have one Kindle book I read on my Fire and one audiobook going. I have a good mix of both going for the books I've set aside as possibles for the challenge.
What does everyone read? Paper, ebooks, audiobooks or all the above? :)

I still have trouble sometimes juggling more then 2 books because I always end up loving one of the books more then the other, so it gets pushed to the side till I finish the one I like better. But that has improved the more I join these team challenges.
I normally read ebooks, they are easier to get a hold of then paperbacks. There are no bookstores around me, they all pretty much closed down and I'm not really a fan of Libraries since you have to give the book back and when I fall in love with a book I wanna keep it. I have tries audiobooks but they don't work out for me since my mind tend to wander a lot and even when reading a book I might have to skip back to another page just to have another quick glance.

It seems like most people who don't like audiobooks say its because their mind wanders and they can't focus. I didn't touch audiobooks until about 2 years ago. I have a REALLY REALLY hard time falling asleep at night, like if it takes me around an hour, that's a good night. Some nights I lay awake for 3-4 hours or more. So when I discovered audiobooks, I found that I could actually DO something while trying to fall asleep, and it's helped out a TON. I don't know that I fall asleep faster, but I have a more enjoyable time trying to fall asleep now. :)
I mainly listen to my audiobooks at night, for an hour or more before I go to sleep. I'll listen during the day if I'm near the end (less than an hour left) or I really really love the book. I've even stayed up all night because I didn't want to turn the book off! (for The Martian & Hover Car Racer). Now, I do about half ebooks, half audiobooks. I have some paper books that I collect (Harry Potter, Trixie Belden, Nancy Drew) but to actually read a paper book, I haven't done that in a few years. :)

Hi everyone and have fun! A week to go:)

The only time I read a paperback book is when I'm rereading my favourite books, the last time I actually bought a book was when Dark Skye came out and before that I can't even remember when. Less then a year ago I was looking at my bookshelves and decided that I was never gonna read half of the books that I had there, most of the were YA which I had grown out of so I decide to donate them, let someone else enjoy them. I think I gave away 4 full bookshelves worth of books.

You should try an audiobook at night. It's been soooooo nice for me. There were nights I'd lay there for hours just bored. I mean, if I read my Kindle book, I wasn't really trying to fall asleep, so no matter when I turned it off, I was still up for a while. The audiobook allows my mind to shut off and just listen. When my mind wanders, that's when I know I'm starting to get sleepy and I can turn it off soon. When I notice something going on but don't know how they got there, I turn it off and go to sleep. It's been great.
Last night, I finished a book after I was only in bed an hour. I wasn't tired, but thought I'd just not start the next one, try to fall asleep. An hour later I decided to finally start the next audiobook and I was still awake almost 2 hours later before I finally realized I missed something and turned it off.
It's no big deal if your mind wanders, or you fall asleep, because you can just go back to what you remembered from before. I've missed out on anywhere from a few seconds to dozing for a half hour before it waking me up and me falling back to sleep. :)
That's awesome that you gave away so many books. I miss having tons and tons of books. We moved almost 3 years ago and had had stuff happen to us before we moved and pretty much lost everything. We moved here with 2 suitcases and nothing else. I think about 5 books made the trip. Now I have about 75 from sales at the library or trips to the thrift store, but I haven't actually read any of them. LOL!
Do you re-read books often?

I'm sorry that you lost everything, that must have been really horrible. I used to go to thrift store and get my Historical Romance from there, I went crazy for that genre and I still have 3 bookshelves full with just that genre, but I have read them all but can't seem to get rid of them.
I'm actually rereading books now, I decide to read the BDB series again since the first time I read them was in 2012 and I'm excited for the new book to come out. And I'm also reread my favourite series Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole, I have reread the series about 3 times with certain books a couple of more times.
I'm actually nearly finished The Warlord Wants Forever but move it to my put-on-hold shelf to finish after the challenge starts.
I'm still reading Lover at Last because it's a lot longer but I will do the same when I get towards the end.
I'm also gonna start A Hunger Like No Other and do the same thing.

But I've been listening to them since I was a child. My mother used to get me record and tapes of fairy tales and different stories.
So I'm listening to this: Night Pleasures which works for D (series: Dark Hunters) and N: for title. I can hold off on finishing it until Sunday.

In Want of a Wife
G: author Jo Goodman
L: character: Morgan Longstreet

Hi Renee! Nice to see ya. :) I'll let ya know if we have issues. :D
Oh, I love playing around with the speed reading apps as well. I've only done it with 2 books I think, but it's fun to do now and then.
Yeah, Mary, audiobooks are good while doing chores and stuff as well. I'll listen when I'm cooking or cleaning. I haven't done it while walking the dog yet, but that's because Hubby and I walk together when we take her out. I do listen to audiobook when I walk into town though. I love audiobooks!!
Got you down for G ~ Mary. Hopefully our other team members will come join us soon and let us know what they want. It'd be great to have all the letter covered before we even start!
