Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I'm going to have a mini read-a-thon today and hopefully finish up 2, maybe 3. 2 are almost done so those won't be a problem. The 3rd is short but we'll see how the day goes.

Sounds good Mary, just keep us updated. I hope to get in at least 1 more today. My Hubby is home from work and it's always hard getting stuff read when He's home.

Karsyn (imzadi) T minus 6ish hours til the end of this week. Time ends at noon in Sydney, or 9pm EST here in the states. Make sure your books are marked on your shelf prior to then!

Our next word is ~

Changeables ~ so we can pick any color we'd like for a color read. I suppose we'll just use the book that has the most of one color that's read first. Shouldn't have any issues with any letters this week either. LMK what books you wanna mark down, when you are able.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Finished The Great Gatsby. I was in house cleaning mode so went to that next since it was only a 5 hour audio. Also took a nice long walk with the dog.

I only have 15% of Winter Kiss left and so I'm going to finish that now. Then my daughter and I are going to have a Star Trek Next Generation marathon.

Moderators of NBRC | 33502 comments Mod
FYI - I'm verifying one of your characters with some of the other mods. So you may need to be prepared to do some switching

It is around claiming "Olal Spiegel" for The Book Thief. There are 3 entries of his name in the book which are all in the same paragraph

"both rudy and the other boy, Olaf Spiegel had started undressing now aswell...." (so just a reference, no dialogue)
it goes on to then say "then he questioned Olaf spiegel. "who was third?". Spiegel made a few calculations..."That was you I think". "Cow shit, Spiegel, it was you"

To claim a character they need to have some dialogue and meaning to the story.

So because he says one sentence in the book and this is his only reference in the book, I'm getting some second opinions on this

--edit-- I just realised I was looking at week 1 and not week 2, so I'll let it pass. Please be aware of the character rules for future books. Thanks!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments So my classwork starts again this week and I will probably only get 2 books done. Maybe even only 1 depending on how much audiobook time I get. The class is statistics and I'm thinking that's going to be a hard one for me. The other class is Women's Health issues and not worried about that one other than that it might be a lot of reading.

message 268: by Karsyn (last edited Apr 05, 2015 08:03AM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Thanks mods.

Sorry about that. When it comes to characters I have to rely on my teammates for them. I've never read that book so I assumed it was a main character. I personally only use the core main characters, though I prefer to just use the title/author personally.

Thanks for the slide, sorry for it! :/

Edit ~ according to the book page, Rudy is a main character? So I switched the character to Rudy and it still fit for where I had it with the word.

Karsyn (imzadi) Baseball season is here!! :) Wooohooo!!

Any fans?

I was raised in Pirate country, so followed them as a child but then didn't follow baseball for years (in my teens and 20s). When my Hubby and I decided to start following it again, we became Rays fans and got to go to some games (we lived in central FL).

We moved to NC 3 years ago and started following the Nats, and they are our team now. We had disappointments with the Rays when they let their skipper go and a bunch of good players go. Only Longo is really left. So, we're definitely Nats fans now, we hope to go see a game, someday.

So, any baseball fans? How is everyone doing today?

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments I'm not really a sports fan, don't watch any on tv. My brothers do but they only really watch Football and Soccer.

message 274: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I'm definitely a sports fan. :) Football first, then baseball but I'll also occasionally watch Nascar, certain Olympic events and can stand watching Tiger when he's playing. :)

I just wish we lived in a big town, close enough to be season ticket holders for baseball or football, not that we could afford it even if we were close, but it'd be a fun way to live. :)

I hate it when I don't like an audiobook narration. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen for me.

Ah, I've heard narrators do that. Stuff like that is why I enjoy speeding narrators up. When there are still pauses and it's sped up, you know they are going so super slow. I had a narrator in this set of books (Insignia series by S.J. Kincaid) that I was able to double the speed and it sounded quick but enjoyable. He was beyond slow.

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments Okay, you asked some questions the other day and I answered in post #262 but you didn't so

1: What's your favorite movie(s)?
2: What new release are you most waiting on?
3: What's been your favorite book so far of 2015?
4: What book(s) do you recommend most to others?
5: What book/series did you stay away from longest before caving in and reading, and then loving?

message 291: by Karsyn (last edited Apr 09, 2015 08:22AM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I saw your answer, thanks for replying. I was going to do my own questions after more people responded, but no one else did. :/ Here's my answers for ya ~

1: What's your favorite movie(s)?
The Mummy & The Mummy Returns, Star Trek First Contact

2: What new release are you most waiting on?
Forged (Taken, #3) by Erin Bowman

3: What's been your favorite book so far of 2015?
The Martian by Andy Weir

4: What book(s) do you recommend most to others?
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

5: What book/series did you stay away from longest before caving in and reading, and then loving?
Definitely Harry Potter. I don't tend to read books that are beyond super popular. I put off reading HP until almost the 5th one was out. I had people that kept pushing me towards reading them, though I kept resisting. But then I came across one of those book club deals where the first 4 books was only $1 for the hardcovers, so I decided to get them. Of course, I fell in love with them, and they are some of my all time favorite books ever.

message 292: by ❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ (last edited Apr 09, 2015 08:44AM) (new)

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments I love the first 2 Mummy movies, didn't really like the 3rd movie though, I mean how could they have a different actress play Eve. It's not the same.

I haven't read any of those 3 books, but omg if I was that mark guy from The Martian I would be very freaked out, getting stuck on Mars with only a limited amount of supplies omg what could happen when the air runs out.

I loved the Harry potter movies but I was never much into reading when I was younger so it took me until the 4th movie before I decided to give them a try, I of course didn't have all the books so I started with 4 then when I got copy's I read 2 and then 3 and then I read 1 and then 5,6 and 7. So I was so out of order lucky I had already seen the movies or I would have been lost. What's your favourite book and favourite movie? Mine is 5th book 3rd movie.

message 294: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Awesome ladies! :) YAY!!

I didn't like the 3rd one either. It stunk that the chick that played Eve didn't want to do it anymore. I LOVE the first two movies, they are so fun. My Hubby and I quote them all the time.

I don't know what I'd do if I was in Mark's shoes. I'm pretty strong (emotionally unfortunately) so I'd like to think, that if I had any kind of skill and knowledge, that I'd survive. It was a truly fantastic book!

Oh that's crazy that you read them out of order. Good tho, that you at least saw the movies first. It still amazes me that there's people who haven't read the books and/or seen the movies. One case where the hype lives up to the series.

My favorite book is Azkaban. It's my favorite movie as well, although it's also the one I have the most issues with. I don't like how they left out the details of the map, one of my favorite things. I would have liked to have seen more of it in the movie, with explaining where it came from, who they were, and all of that. I love everything about that book, it's my absolute favorite. I have a keychain time turner, and I wish they were for real and I could go back in time. :)

My least favorite book and movie is your favorite ~ Order of the Phoenix. I still love the book overall, but man Umbridge creeps me the freak out, in the book and movie. In order, I like the books ~ 3, 1, 4, 7, 6, 2, 5. By contrast, the movies I like ~ 3, 1, 7a, 7b, 6, 4, 2, 5. But truly, I love them all, books and movies. They are fantastic!

Are you a fan of books turned movies, such as Hunger Games, Maze Runner or Divergent?

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments I haven't seen them in so long, I didn't hate the 3rd movie it just wasn't the same so I feel like if she didn't want to do it then they should have made it.

If I was in his shoes I wouldn't last a day, but then again I don't think I would have ever signed up to go to Mars in the first place.

I know, I hate reading things out of order, but I was only 12 or 13 when I started read them so I didn't know any better now when I see something I like I have to start at book 1.

I love Lupin, he is one of my favourite characters, so I always loved watching the movie.
I have a time turner necklace that my brother got for me not last Christmas but the one before that, it spins and has sand in the hourglass, he also got me Professor Snapes wand which sits proudly on my bookshelf with all my other Harry Potter stuff.

My least favourtie book and movie is Chamber of Secrets, the snakes voice in the movie freaks me out no matter how many times I have watch it, I re-read the first 3 books in November for the Tower Teams. It's weird reading them now from when I first read them, I have read a lot of books many times except for books 1 and 2 which I only read once but it still stayed my least favourite.

I have actually never read Hunger Games, Maze Runner or Divergent, and I haven't even seen the movies. I had already moved on from YA when they went big, I did buy the first Hunger Games book but never read it and later on gave it away, did you like them?

message 296: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Oh, I'd totally sign up to go to Mars. My Hubby and I had that conversation after He finished the book. It so made me interested in going to space, and I'd definitely love to go to Mars! :)

I like Lupin a lot as well. Harry would be my favorite, but I'm a fan of Sirius as well, he's probably my next favorite after Harry. That's so neat that you have a time turner as well. The time turner is the only HP thing we have now, except some books. We had a few more things that we lost over the years. The main thing that I want now is a Marauder's Map. Someday, when I can spend $40 on some paper. :)

I don't like the Chamber of Secrets much either, but my issue is with Lockhart. I don't like him in the books or the movie. He's annoying.

I'm not much of a re-reader, HP is almost the only books I've re-read. I started re-reading them in 2013 when I first starting trying out audiobooks. I listened to Jim Dale's version first, because I adore him. When I started through them again I listened to Stephen Fry's version. The next book I'd be on for that re-thru would be 6.

I've read all the books in all the series of Hunger Games, Maze Runner and Divergent. I've only seen the HG movies. I LOVE Hunger Games, they are fantastic, though I didn't love the 3rd book. I'm hoping the 3rd movies are better than the book. I haven't watched Maze Runner yet, I do need to at some point. I refuse to watch Divergent. I LOVED the first two books but the end of the 3rd one pissed me off so much, I won't have anything to do with them anymore. :/

What is it that made you move on from YA? Do you not read anything that is for a younger audience, YA or middle grade?

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments Oh I wouldn't sign up for it, I know that they are doing that Mars One thing were you once you go there to built a colony buy you can never come back so I would never be able to do it.

My favourite character in order are Snape, Neville, the Weasley twin, Lupin and Luna. It's funny that it's all about Harry, Ron and Hermione but they aren't in my top fav's, I don't know why that is but it's true.

I only have the necklace, wand, box set and I have a bracelet. I did buy the box set of the first 4 movies when there was only the 4 movies made, I bought it with my birthday money and right after buying it me and my mum and aunt went to look at a shoe shop then went an watched a movie well it was after the movie was finished and all the shops were closed that we realized that we left the bag at the shoe place and I was devastated that I spend all my money and lost it.

That's the first time I have reread them in years but it was only the first 3.
I love rereading series that I love, I don't do it ofter but sometimes I will just reread 1 book from a series not all of them.

It was all the drama, and it was the whole being in high school and I just go so sick of Love Triangles and it taking so many books for the girl/boy to choose one person and of course it not being who you wanted them to choose, but most of all they didn't have HEA's. That's what I love, at the end of a book no matter what they went through it all worked out in the end and they were together. YA books always had cliffhangers and it takes between 3 - 6 or more books for them to have that so I just moved on.

I do read some NA, but it's only really when I'm reading MM books and they are in college, the rest of the time it's adult books for me.

message 298: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I'd definitely go, well as long as my Hubby went with me. We have nothing here to keep us around, maybe life on a different planet would be better. LOL!! It would be great, I'd definitely be up for the adventure. I wish! :)

Hmmm, if I had to rate some characters, I'd have to say ~ Harry, Weasley twins, Sirius, Hermione, Hagrid, Lupin & Tonks. Ron's ok, but he definitely has his bad moments.

Ahhh, that stinks that you lost your money. :( Sorry that happened to you.

I don't read NA for the reasons you are talking about. I actually hate just plain romance. My books have to be action packed. It can have a romance, but I prefer that the romance is secondary to the story. Like with Maze Runner, there's not a lot of a romance at all. I prefer it that way. I like HEA but I don't have to have them. I mainly read YA for action type books. I just finished up the Insignia trilogy and I absolutely loved it. It was all about the action and though there were a few romances in it, it didn't drive the story. That's the kind of books that I prefer, for the most part.

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments I have to much family, I could never leave them and never return it would hurt to much.

I heard that J.R Rowling wasn't gonna kill Sirius off, that she was gonna have Mr. Weasley killed instead but changed her mind because she didn't want the Weasley kids to not have a dad. I love Hagrid he is such a sweet guy.

I know, I think about 4 months later my mum surprised me by buying it for me. She's the best mum.

Lately I have been on a MM binge, and I do tend to read Romantic Suspense if it's MM. I actually started reading a new one. But even with all the action I still like a little Romance thrown in.

message 300: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Well, that's a good thing that you have a lot of close family. My Hubby and I are both the devil of our "families" (saying we're the black sheep is an insult to sheep), so we're all we have. We'd be glad to go anywhere, as long as we are together. We moved from FL to NC 3 years ago when a friend helped us move here. We'd move again, anywhere really, if we were able to.

I hated that she killed off Sirius and Fred too. Those were the worst! :( In my own make believe Hogwarts world, they are both still alive. :D

MM is something I really haven't read any of, at all. I love erotica but it's usually a typical male/female couple or a 3somes. Usually not just MM. I haven't been reading much lately, since a lot of the BDSM stuff has been ticking me off.
