The Seasonal Reading Challenge discussion

This is the thread for the logo design contest. Each season, group members will have the opportunity to design a new logo that will represent the group during the duration of the following challenge. You may submit a masthead banner design to accompany your logo.

Pictures and anything used to create the logo should be original material (i.e. no copyrighted images, including AI generated art).

Images must be between 1KB and 6MB and of type: jpg/jpeg/gif/png/tiff/tif
Logos are best in square or slightly rectangular (either vertical or horizontal) shapes. Some images may be cropped by GR.
A working size would be approximately 340px X 340px.
Mastheads are 3:1 or 970px wide by 245px high
On the group's homepage the logo overlaps the masthead at the lower left.

You can post a picture directly in this thread, provide a link to the image or send one of the moderators a message for help. The logo should reflect in some way the season, bonus theme or purpose of the group.

The Fall 2023 bonus theme is: Decades: 50s

This thread is open for submissions and it will close at Midnight EST on August 15, 2023 - voting will start the next day and run until the end of the GR day on August 31. The winning submission will replace the current logo on September 1st. Good luck to everyone!

I guess I'm being dense here, but decided to verify my interpretation of the logo rules.

Many of the logos we've had over the last few years appear to actually include clip art or similar non-copyrighted items. Either we have some good graphic artists submitting with "original" images or free clip art, etc. is actually acceptable for the not-so-talented of us.

Which interpretation is accurate? Thanks for satisfying my curiousity.

My understanding is that free clip art or other out-of-copyright images are fine to use as part of your original image - as long as you've put some original work in yourself to compose the logo that you ultimately enter into the contest (i.e. don't just lift something wholesale and pass it off as your own if you've done nothing to it.)

This is the wording the new mod team have kind of inherited (with the exception of the restriction on AI art, that's new this season), so we might look at tweaking it in future if needed.

Thanks, that makes me feel like it's more accessible for some of us to try to design something either now or in a future season. I think that sort of clarification would be good in a revised wording.

I wouldn't know where to start with this. I think we have to be grateful for the few that do

I'm working on a banner and logo! :) Hope to finish it this weekend. I used to work as an illustrator, so no worries about copyrighted material and the like...

Okay so I see the banner is a bit smooshed together.. lol..
The original is with the right pixel sizes etc. See it in the right shape with the link below the image.

Those look great! My only suggestion would be to add Fall 2023 somewhere if it's easy to do.

To me, the text clarifies what seasonal challenge it was designed for. (Yes, history was my first major)
