I'm in the mood for a good angsty romance, but not the kind where the H abuses the h in any way. HEA or HFN is fine; any era is fine; standalone or series is fine, but please, no cliff-hangers! I'd like a book that's complete in itself, even if part of a set. I'd also prefer a plot that doesn't involve crime or police. Most importantly, I want a story where the H is good to the h, or at least doesn't hurt her intentionally. Could anyone please recommend some books like that? I'd sure be grateful.

Sybil Powell (sybilpowell) | 33 comments My book Inshallah might fill the bill check it out, it ticks all your boxes and it's different.

Stanalei (stanalei_fletcher) | 3 comments I'd suggest anything by RaeAnne Thayne. She writes series, but all the books are standalones too.

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Hi, Autumn: what do HEA and HFN stand for?

Happily Ever After or Happy For Now

Hi Autumn, you might enjoy my first novel, The Silk Romance. The story is set in Lyon, France, with a French hero, and is an emotional read. The Silk Romance by Helena Fairfax

One book-blogger described it as "unforgettable, powerfully intense and beautifully written," and it was one of her favourite reads of 2013.

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Thanks, Stanalei! My chat vocabulary is a work in progress!

Mine too, but being a writer...that one I knew. :)

Groovy Lee Autumn, are you okay with authors posting their own books? I like to ask first before I add mine. If you prefer not, I completely understand, and maybe you should add that to your thread:)

Not to toot my own horn...(I kinda hate doing that) but my novel David's Song might be something you would like. Angtsy without police or crime...it's clean...it does end (although it is part of trilogy. You can go on with the series if you like...or not, your choice.)

Good luck. I know how hard it is to find a book that fits your cravings just so.

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Noe, for the answer to your question, see above, Message 5.

Thanks, everyone! I'll check out all these books. And yes, Groovy, it's perfectly fine to recommend your own work as long as it fits the bill. I only resent it when I ask for something specific like this and then a writer recs his/her own work, but when I check it out it turns out to be nothing like what I requested. That doesn't happen often, but it has happened before.

Groovy Lee Thank-you, Autumn

I write wholesome, passionate Kindle romances. Think along the lines of Harlequin, that HEA, finding that once-in-a-lifetime true love type of story.

My heroes are almost perfect, and would never ever think of abusing anyone. If you think you might be interested, I've listed them:

Thanks, I'll check those out too. I just love stories about normal everyday nice guys rather than Christian Greys, yanno? And it's darn hard to find books like that lately. So I'm very grateful to all of you!

The Flipped Page (Susan K) (theflippedpage) | 15 comments Autumn, I have loved Elizabeth Gaskell's "North and South". Very angsty, and lots of tension. Great movie too.
Also, if you like contemporary, try Jennifer Peel (I have loved all of her books), and Melanie Jacobson's "Painting Kisses". Jennifer Peel's stories have all different settings some married, some not, some history, some chance, but I think her favorites of mine are "A House Divided" and also "Professional Boundaries". "The Girl in 24B" is from a married woman's point of view of a struggle in her marriage, but still a great story.
Melanie Jacobson's "Painting Kisses" is general interest for a mass markent, and her other books have some great characters in them, but they are told from a Christian/Latter-day Saint slant. (I love them, but not everyone else does). Her one book, "Not My Type" has some great comic moments, and lots of misunderstandings and miscommunications that are fun, and very angsty...she has great momentum to finish her story with a big moment, and it is never a sure thing until right near the end. I just re-read all of her books, and she has great delivery, sweet build-ups to her kisses, and nothing over the top. Very clean reads. Just really knows how to get the nuances in romance.
Elizabeth Gaskell's North and South is wonderful if you haven't read that though! Enjoy!!
I am curious what other books you like to read?

Helena Fairfax (helenafairfax) | 12 comments Thanks for those recommendations, SLK. I love North and South, too, and the BBC adaptation with the fabulous Richard Armitage was excellent! I just downloaded Professional Boundaries. I've never read any Jennifer Peel - she's not well-known here where I live in the UK - but I'm looking forward to trying her.
