Julie Ditton (storybooklady) | 234 comments I wasn't sure if this belonged in series or questions folder. Let me know if I need to move it. The manga is currently set up in two series lists. There is one for Part 1 volumes 1-7 with an English header but mostly (but not all ) Japanese editions. https://www.goodreads.com/series/2206...# and then someone else set up a list for Part 2 volumes 1-7 with a Japanese title and 2 bolumes in Japanese, but the rest in English. https://www.goodreads.com/series/282277

There are more Parts of the light novel series already adapted in the Japanese manga and Part 3, volume 1 has already been translated and volume two will be out in November. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Ascendance... https://j-novel.club/series/ascendanc...

I planed on creating a new English series list for all the manga similar to the list for the light novels that has all the volumes, but the manual states we should not create a series for each language that a novel is written in.

Do I clean up the other two existing series and make them all consistantly in the English editions, instead of some of each and then create a seperate list for Part 3? Or do I create that new series page in English as planed and then clean up the clean up or delete the other two series?

Is there a simple way to change the editon on the series page or do I need to delete the English and then add back the Japanese or vise versa?

Thanks for teaching the newby.

Julie Ditton (storybooklady) | 234 comments But if I go to the above lists and click on Part 1, volume 2 which shows up in Japanese, and then click on all editions, I see that the English actually has more ratings than the Japanese. I checked that out on the other titles and the same applies for a couple more books in those lists: the book shows up in Japanese , but the an English edition has more ratings.

lethe | 16359 comments It is possible for the English edition to have more ratings, but the Japanese edition to have more shelvings. The default edition is determined by the most shelvings.

Julie Ditton (storybooklady) | 234 comments When I look at the editions list it gives the number of ratings and reviews. Is there a way to see the number of shelvings something has?

On the combine page you can see the number of shelvings if you click on the 'details' link behind an edition. For example, the first listed edition of the book linked in the topic title has 2435 ratings, as visible on the editions page, but was shelved 6138 times.

Julie Ditton (storybooklady) | 234 comments Thankyou for answering that question. Since we are supposed to base merges on shelvings rather than ratings, I did't know where to find that info. It would be so much simpler if that info was included in the "show all editions" page.

Does this mean that before seperating two editions for a merge, I should actually go to the combine page which lists all of the author's works, weed through them all to find the edition in question and click on details to make sure that it has 5 or less shelvings? That seems like a lot of unecessary work.

In my experience, it is rare that a book has fewer than 5 ratings but more than 5 shelvings. I would just try to merge and if it has more than 5 shelvings you will get an error message and you can then post it in the Supers folder.

Julie Ditton (storybooklady) | 234 comments This thread has discussed the fact that the default book will show no matter the language and how to tell shelvings from ratings. But my initial question is still not adressed. The light novels are all in one series list. https://www.goodreads.com/series/2206... with 33 primary works.

The manga has two series lists so far.
https://www.goodreads.com/series/2206...
https://www.goodreads.com/series/282277
and now Part 3 is being turned into mangas.
Should I create a new series list for part 3 or should they all be combined into one list?
