Liz (liz_the_librarian) Hi everyone! How's everyone doing this week? I thought this week would be a good time for us to share suggestions or ask questions about the BINGO card. In case you don't know what I'm talking about, there's a BINGO card to supplement this year's challenge. It's not required, but it has some good prompts in case you get stuck or aren't sure what to read next. Find it here.

I've filled in a couple squares so far but am stuck on picking a book that takes place in the distant future. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Also, there's a new poll up about what's important to you when choosing a new book to read. Feel free to vote! Goodreads' HTML editor doesn't like me, so here's the link to the poll: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1...

Have a great week!

Ann (ann-fracturedfiction) | 516 comments I've been using the bingo card to create my displays for the library: so far we've done one word titles, books with a purple cover, and (this month) modern day fairy tales. I haven't picked books to read based on the bingo card, but I'm sure I could use several of the books that I've read to fill in squares on the card.
Books set in the distant future: Isaac Asimov's Foundation Trilogy, any of Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover books, The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. LeGuin... that's all I can think of off the top of my head.
P.S. the link to the poll isn't working.

Liz (liz_the_librarian) Hmmm, no idea why the link isn't working. I'm able to add it normally, but then it redirects back to this thread.

Try this: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1...

I let someone else choose my next book.... based on a recommendation... once I finish the three I'm working on now I will read The Great Zoo of China

Currently I'm listening to To Kill a Mockingbird

and reading Between the Spark and the Burn

and The Impossibility of Tomorrow which fits with read a book you picked at random... it's the second in a series and I haven't read the first :(

Chris Francis (snowtiger64) | 45 comments Liz, once again I find myself recommending "Red Rising" by Pierce Brown. It definitely fits the bill for distant future, and is about the same length as Night Circus (which I will be reading next). If you've read Ready Player One and Ender's Game and liked those, I'm sure you'll like this.

Ingrid Hurst (bookrdr) | 285 comments I'll have to put Red Rising on my books to read list since I really enjoyed Ready Player One & Ender's Game. I have my 12 year old son reading Ready Player one & he likes it.
For the BINGO card, I just started Joyland, by Stephen King, so that fits the One Word Title category. I will have to look at the rest of the suggestions.
Just finished Private London on CD in the car..
Yesterday was so gorgeous, I sat on my porch & read in the afternoon. That was so nice.

I really liked Red Rising, Chris. I've been meaning to pick up the sequel, so maybe I'll use that as my distant future book. Thanks for the suggestions.

Chris Francis (snowtiger64) | 45 comments I have the sequel "Golden Sun" but I've been holding off on reading it until closer to the release of the third and final book.

Chris Francis (snowtiger64) | 45 comments Liz, just thought I'd mention that just this morning storybundle.com just released a bundle of 13 time-travel e-books for only $14. Maybe you'll find a new author and check off that block on your bingo card! :-D

Thanks for the tip! I'll check it out.

Pattie Babbitt The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah Just finished reading "The Nightingale" by Kristin Hannah. It takes place in occupied France during World War 2 and really hits home in its description of what women go through during times of war. I highly reccommend it!

Julie | 130 comments I finished The Scorch Trials, then read Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse (my library hold cam through) and finished The Death Cure last night.

Hurray for a productive week in reading!

Overall I enjoyed the Maze Runner trilogy. I saw that there is a prequel which I may read as well. It didn't have a ton of character development, and there were certainly some other flaws, but on the whole it was a good story, and sometimes that is all it has to be.

Now I just have to decide what to read next, always such a wonderful problem to have. :)
