lethe | 16359 comments What is the preferred procedure when cataloguing a title published in two volumes but with one ISBN? It was not published as a box set, the subtitles are different and the pages are not consecutive. (I sure know how to pick 'em, sigh)

The paperback version of volume 1 of the particular title I'm dealing with right now is already on GR: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

I have the hardcovers. Should I add the hardcover volume 1 as a new edition to this title and create a new record for the volume 2, but leave the ISBN field blank and cross-reference both volumes in the description and/or librarian note? Or is there another way of doing this?

Thanks in advance for your answer.

This is the easiest.
I would put the ISBN with volume 1 and add a link in the description to vol. 2. Librarian notes will be essential!

lethe | 16359 comments Oh yeah, that happens sometimes too. *eagerly awaits the answer*

In the mean time, thank you Amanda! Will proceed as suggested.

You mean the set as a whole has one ISBN, but each volume in the set has its own ISBN:

Assuming the above, that usually means they were available to be sold as individual books and as the set (though not always).
In that case, you enter the set under that ISBN, and you can enter each volume separately under its ISBN.
