The Fault in our stars by John Green, I can see why many people like it but it wasn't sad and I hated the characters.
And then there were none by Agatha Christie
Everything by Colleen Hoover, OMG. She's not that good a writer! Ditto Jodi Picoult. Problem novels that are more about the issue than about the character.

Joe Abercrombie's Best Served Cold, and his Age of Madness series. I know a lot of people liked them but they were not for me.

For me, it was probably The Lovely Bones. I'm sure it was useful as a therapeutic journey, but the writing was terrible.
Everything Sarah Maas and Cassandra Clare. There are thousands of better books that deserve more hype.
Ditto on anything by Jodi Picoult (her time was short-lived with me) and the Lovely BonesThe Girl on the Train - I feel like everyone was blown away…I was so bored. I do read a lot of that genre, I guess, and when I can see things clearly/start falling into place too early I’m super bummed. Not only that, I just wasn’t impressed with any of it.

While there's nothing wrong with the Harry Potter series - heck, I'm all for anything that gets more young people into reading - the publisher has done things that can only be explained by immense greed.

a good girl's guide to murder by holly jackson. the writing was mid, the characters were bland and the plot twists were pretty predictable. i've consumed farrr better murder mysteries
any trendy books are generally overblown. after a few decades one can tell if a book truly has value or if it was only a flash in the pan. this is why I don't read a lot of recently written works.
If he had been with me, Twilight, any Colleen Hoover book, The Inheritance Games, Red White and Royal Blue, any book by Lucy Score, The Shadow and Bone Trilogy
Probably this woven kingdom series. It's good and enjoyable, but to be honest I expected more.
Where the Crawdads Sing. Very overhyped with an implausible protagonist and a barely believable story line. I swear it seemed as if she were writing some sort of confession. ;)
The Song of Achilles- expected to love it from the rave reviews but was disappointed, actually enjoyed Circe more!
the silent patient, normal people, people we meet on vacation, tessa bailey, twisted series, colleen hoover, the night circus, the hating game. list could go on forever - booktube/booktok is so hit or miss

I feel like BookTok has skewed opinion on a lot of books. I know I can be a harsher than average reviewer but I used to be able to trust that a book with a 4+ star average would have decent grammar and syntax and usually reasonable characterisation, world building and/or plot. Not anymore.
