What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

It was the story of a young Irish girl in the 70s that was taken out of school and swapped to an old widow farmer for a car by her father.
He chained her up every time she tried to run away and she drank to escape the torture. She wrote a book and as I recall it was published by O'Brien Press. She ended up living in the UK. I read this in the 90s
