In the quotes section of Goodreads, I've noticed that quotes that begin in the middle of a sentence do not contain ellipses. Is this a style guide specification or is this incorrect?

Example:
“that sometimes we married, dated, befriended, or shared a roof with monsters.”
― Noelle W. Ihli, Run on Red

Shouldn't this contain an ellipses such as "...that sometimes we married..." ?

I believe this is a result of Kindle readers indiscriminately highlighting passages on their device. Because of the unfortunate link between Goodreads and Amazon, those passages automatically get uploaded here.

I have deleted this and a number of other nonsense quotes, including one that was just "the."

But they don't get uploaded to quotes automatically. They just get uploaded to profile Kindle Notes & Highlights.

Unless there is some announcement somewhere otherwise?

I'm no good at finding old comments, but I think it came up before and that was the answer.

Well, I admit I'm not up on quotes. I don't share my highlights and I'm not interested in reading others' highlights, though I've seen them on profiles. But the ones I've seen on profiles were not in the quotes section.

Maybe someone else can clarify.

Is there maybe something that is easy to press by accident on the Kindle?

I'm not entirely sure, but as far as I remember, those quotes came indeed from those Kindle highlights, but some change was made so it doesn't happen in the same way any more.

I think those can be manually added to quotes and not everyone knows about using ellipses.
