Elizabeth (Alaska) The Help article should just be deleted. It no longer applies.

Did you mean to link to the manual in your "Also 2:"?

To me, the language in the Manual is quite clear. Could you be more specific as to what you think isn't right?

Valid book records:

Non-book items:

Elizabeth (Alaska) I followed the link, but as I expected to see what is now policy, it didn't make sense to me. And, honestly, I don't see the difference between what the manual says and what you say in that post it *should* say.

The manual says:
periodicals and bound comic books with ISBNs (including literary magazines, regardless of binding)
periodicals without ISBNs but substantially similar to books, defined as literary magazines valuably contributing or dedicated to literature, regardless of binding
single-issue literary magazines with an ASIN (Kindle format)

You say it *should* say:
periodicals and bound comic books with ISBNs (including literary magazines, regardless of binding)
- periodicals without ISBNs but substantially similar to books, defined as literary magazines valuably contributing or dedicated to literature, regardless of binding
- single-issue literary magazines with an ASIN (Kindle format)

Elizabeth (Alaska) As to the help article, for non-librarians, there is no Add-a-book form. Not sure a lot can be tweaked.

And we know they don't "try our best to restrict this information to books" because the bot has added more non book items than all of the random persons ever thought of doing.

Sorry, I thought you were talking about Magazines, not the new Status system.

When did I miss you were talking about this article? (Which I don't think I've ever seen!)

Elizabeth (Alaska) Yes, there is no need to list the valid/nonvalid books in that article. Honestly, I didn’t know it was there. I quoted the Valid and Non-Valid articles above because those have been changed and that is what I thought we were talking about.

Thanks for this! I've made a note to revise the Does Goodreads allow items other than books? article.

I've also removed the valid and non-book items section from the Librarian Manual: Book Status (“Public”, “Invalid”, “Deleted”) article and replaced it with links.

Finally, as Corinne is already aware, I've reopened the shorts discussion for final feedback.

zines -- already addressed on the proper page"

Were Zines addressed? I don't see any response.

Elizabeth (Alaska) I was looking for clarification, because you and I seem to have a different understanding of whether or not they are allowed.

Elizabeth (Alaska) OK, I'm obviously confused. I don't see the "laundry list" on the non-book items page. Yes, Zines is there, although not clear as to our previous discussion. But shouldn't the list be included? I'm hoping that paid staff, when they do these things, looks at what they are doing, rather than relying on unpaid staff to oversee. (Just seems as if GR staff should be telling *us* what is policy, not the other way round.)

Thanks for the heads-up Corinne. I've re-added that info to the non-book items article.

Closing this thread as complete, but open a new one if you have any further questions. 😊

Quick update here that I've updated the above-mentioned Help article:
