Nasta_lm | 133 comments Starting it today 😉

Nasta_lm | 133 comments I've read a bit and can say that I love the humor in this book (more than in Hithhiker). The author is mocking cliche and common patterns in literature and movies, economic and political structures.

jvickery88 | 112 comments nice! sounds promising.. so for me, the book arrived on Saturday but whilst waiting for it, I started to read to read the 3rd hunger games book.. so yeah it's quite gripping so I haven't started guards yet... shame on me

Nasta_lm | 133 comments I feel like this book is much like Hitchhiker in a way that it's better to be read without long pauses. I like it a lot, but when time passes you kinda wonder why you have to return to it. Though I really enjoy it. Paradox

jvickery88 | 112 comments This book is funny. The brethren scene is just hilarious from the point where he is saying the door code to the wrong door 🤣… and then carrots parents telling him he needs to be with his own kind and carrot replies “after all, if you can have short humans, can’t you have tall dwarfs?”

Nasta_lm | 133 comments I've finished it! I really liked it, it was very funny and witty. I laughed so many times! Now I understand why people love Pratchett so much.

Nasta_lm | 133 comments My favourite jokes were about cliches. For example about guards:
"it is, round about Chapter Three (or ten minutes into the film) to rush into the room, attack the hero one at a time, and be slaughtered. No one ever asks them if they wanted to."
--
And in general the book is full of things that I would like to save as quotes and remember them forever.
"Under night's damp cloack assassins assasinated, thieves thieved, hussies hustled." - Haters gonna hate, potatoes gonna potate.
--
The moment when the secret society were talking about heroes and royal heirs lurking in the countryside hiding birthmarks and swords - It was so good.
And what to do If the ruler doesn't have a daughter to marry the hero? Soooo funny
And they of course mentioned profecies, i loved it 😂
--
"When he flexes his shoulder muscles, other muscles have to move out of the way fisrt."
--
The cconversation between Carrot and his dwarf father - perfect.
"And then one day his father had come up to him or, rather, come up to his waist."
--
"Vimes had never mastered ambition. It was something that happened to other people". - Here I understood that I'm Vimes.
--
"He wished he'd had time to drink dinner".
"In the end he just drank to forget about drinking."
--
"I'll see to it that he learns that arresting thieves is against the law."
--
"... proletarian steak cooked so rare you could still hear it bray".
--
"There must be hundreds of other things he could do, and if he thought for long enough he could probably remember what some of them were." - It's me thinking about my profession becoming not required because of automation and AI.
--
" - ...you'd have thought that [dragon] is hardly going to want other dragons dead, is he? They're probably distant relatives or something. I mean, it wouldn't want us to go around killing its own kind, would it?
- Well, sir, people do, sir, - said the guard sulkily.
- Ah, well, - said the captain. - That's different. - he tapped the side of his helmet meaningfully. - That's 'cos we're intelligent."
--
"- What;s up, Sarge? Do you want to live for ever?
- Dunno. Ask me again in five hundred years."
--
"They accept evil not beacuse they say yes, but because they don't say no."

jvickery88 | 112 comments yeah i agree i was smiling when I read:

"Under night's damp cloack assassins assasinated, thieves thieved, hussies hustled."

jvickery88 | 112 comments your new pen name, Anastasiya Vimes haha

Nasta_lm | 133 comments just remembered that I also love when Death appears, really good written moments!

jvickery88 | 112 comments Still haven’t got to that part. For me it’s quite hard to follow but I notice on every page at least 3 or 4 wonderfully written sentences

jvickery88 | 112 comments The dragons detector cut-me-own-throat sold is hilarious..

“A piece of wood on a metal stick. When the stick was burned through, you’d found your dragon” 🤣
