Tamahome | 7222 comments After work, I usually go to barnes and noble and get a cinnamon spice tea, and read for an hour, taking 20 minute eyeball breaks. I like the estimated reading times in the kindle app, or I calculate it myself. Ninth House seems to have less dialog than usual, so it's taking me a little longer.

Chris K. | 415 comments I usually read about two hours a day. An hour in the morning and another before bed.

I also listen to an audiobook for about an hour a day.

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) A couple hours per day probably. But a lot of my reading is in the middle of me doing other stuff. Like watching a baseball game, where there's a lot of down time and I read during the boring parts and commercials. I even take a book with me in the car and I read while I'm sitting at traffic lights or at lunch hour at work or waiting for food or coffee or whatever.

My reading time is random. I work 12 hour shifts which leaves little time for reading.

So most of my reading is done on my days off. Then I will read for an hour or 2. More if the book grabs me.

Mattias (ximnipot69) | 2 comments I usually aim for 3-4 hours every evening, sometimes it's more and sometimes it's less.

Jamie Revell | 27 comments I get very little reading time these days, sadly. Less than an hour a day, I'd say, and not every day at that...

Phil | 1455 comments I probably average between 1 to 2 hours a day. 1/2 an hour to an hour when I first wake up and the same before I go to sleep. Don't tell anyone but when I'm on certain shifts at work (nuclear medicine tech) I can get quite a bit of reading done while the patients are having long scans. Once the camera starts the scan it doesn't need any input from me so as long as I'm there to monitor, it's fine.

Same. More when I do audiobooks because then I listen while doing other things. Today I listened to music while vacuuming and mopping, but that was a solid 2 hours by itself that I could’ve listened to a book.

AndrewP (andrewca) | 2668 comments Weekdays I get between 1.5 to 2 hours of audio book during my commute and about 1 hour of other reading morning and during breaks. Weekends I rarely do any audio but 1 to 3 hours a day eye reading.

terpkristin | 4407 comments It really depends. I try to make 30 minutes a day to read. Sometimes that happens. Often it doesn't. I work too much. At work, I often have to read a lot and use my brain (ugh) so when I get home, I don't really want to think. I play video games and/or watch terrible television.

I should read more. I did great when I was recovering from ankle surgery. And most weekends I do well. But workdays...

At the end of their life, no one ever says, “I wish I’d spent more time at the office.”

terpkristin | 4407 comments I know. And I’ve heard the one about how only family remembers that you work too much (as evidenced by missing my youngest nephew’s birthday…I forgot to FaceTime him on the day). And yet.

message 13: by Seth (new)

Seth | 787 comments I read words on a page about an hour a day. I usually have an audiobook going at the same time, and that just varies so much. Both on how much time I spend doing mindless things, and on what else there is to listen to. Most of my ear-time right now, for example, is world cup podcasts right now, but will switch back to books within a few weeks probably.

Koyaanisqatsi.

Clyde (wishamc) | 572 comments Highly variable. I am not really a 'routine' kind of guy. But, it averages more than an hour a day. I usually have three books going at once -- one paper (usually nonfiction which I mostly read in snatches while eating, watching sports, etc.), one digital (on a Kindle that I carry with me everywhere), and one audio (which I listen to while walking, exercising, etc.).

Tamahome | 7222 comments I actually like to know how much time is left for the current chapter. Then I get a little dopamine hit when I finish a chapter. It keeps me going. Even better when the chapters are grouped into sections, and I finish a section. Although if the book is super good, none of this matters.

Charles Cadenhead (thatcharliedude) | 201 comments I read at least 15 minutes a day but most days I average an hour. If I'm sucked into a book and I have nothing to do I can read for hours. :)

message 18: by Melina (new)

Melina During the work week, about an hour of an audiobook in the morning when I’m getting ready / headed to the train and 15-30 minutes before bedtime. On the weekends I average closer to 3-4 hours with audiobooks + hardcovers combined. I used to read more but as my daughter has progressed into toddler stage, we spend more time playing together and I have to keep a closer eye (and ear) on her before she gets into trouble (which happens as soon as I turn around… aye!).
