I finished an audio last week that was read by Rob Inglis. In case that's the only version you see when looking, he does an excellent job as well. This book was so outside my wheelhouse that I knew it would be better for me to listen to it than read it myself. This was much more enjoyable than I thought it would be!

I love Andy Serkis's The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. I was going to suggest the same thing, especially for people who have already read the book and/or are fans of the movies.
I won't be reading along this month as I did just listen to it again a few months ago. Enjoy!

Thanks for the audiobook recs. That may be the way to go for me.

Anyway, whether your read or listen, I hope you enjoy this one!

The audio is, however, kind of low volume, so I recommend headphones and you'd still need to turn it all the way up, because even then, it's not extraordinarily loud.
And, for anyone interested in the genius that is Andy Serkis as a voice-actor, below is a short interview of him talking with Stephen Colbert about recording The Hobbit for Audible:

The audio is, howev..."
Thanks for this...I will look at the youtube interview.

This time for HarperCollins, where he talks more in general about the enduring popularity of The Hobbit, as well as the experience of recording the audiobook vs. the movie. Among other things.

It occurred to me that if you have a smart TV, that can access Youtube, you'd be able to follow along on the live reading that way (link in previous comment above).
That's what I plan on doing anyways - with some popcorn/snacks and wine, it'll be like a movie night :D

Happy reading :)

Just a little rant, thank you.
This book was nominated by Bernadette for our monthly theme Perseverance.
In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.
Written for J.R.R. Tolkien’s own children, The Hobbit met with instant critical acclaim when it was first published in 1937. Now recognized as a timeless classic, this introduction to the hobbit Bilbo Baggins, the wizard Gandalf, Gollum, and the spectacular world of Middle-earth recounts of the adventures of a reluctant hero, a powerful and dangerous ring, and the cruel dragon Smaug the Magnificent.
