Євген Рахман | 38 comments Hello
I'm new, so please help to understand

For example here is a book:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
And here is an obvious duplicate
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8...
The duplicate has no ratings at all. Do I need to perform merging in such cases? Or may I just change the status of the duplicate without any ratings and reviews to "deleted"?

Thanks for any advices

Liralen | 8223 comments In this case the second book (ISBN 9789170921766) is the correct edition—the first edition has a truncated ISBN (9789173871). The two books should be combined, then referred to the superlibrarians to delete the one with the broken ISBN. (Regular librarians won't be able to do it because that edition has been shelved too many times. I would suggest fixing the description on the full-ISBN version before combining, though, so that it doesn't get lost.)

In this case, because the covers are a bit different, it's possible that the supers would prefer to avoid a merge; it can be hard to tell when a cover is actually an alternate cover (and should be kept) and when it's just, e.g., an imperfect scan.
