Lina | 823 comments Hello everyone! Welcome to Team Bound by Books! 📚

I am looking forward to partaking in this readathon together with all of you! I will be checking in each day - if you have any questions regarding the spreadsheet or the readathon in general feel free to ask!
(And if updating the spreadsheet doesn't work for someone you can also let me know and I can update it for you.)

Triples count for 100 additional points/book, doubles for 75 points/book and singles for 50 points; so if we manage to fill some of the triple/double prompts that would be perfect (but please don't feel stressed, we are here to have fun!). We can work together to fill the prompts :)
Additionally, we get 1 point per page read (if you listen to audiobooks 15 hours listened count for 1000 pages) .

I hope you will have fun reading!

👨‍👩‍👧‍👧👨‍👨‍👧‍👦👩‍👩‍👧‍👦👨‍👩‍👧‍👧👨‍👨‍👧‍👦👩‍👩‍👧‍👦👨‍👩‍👧‍👧👨‍👨‍👧‍👦👩‍👩‍👧‍👦👨‍👩‍👧‍👧👨‍👨‍👧‍👦👩‍👩‍👧‍👦👨‍👩‍👧‍👧👨‍👨‍👧‍👦👩‍👩‍👧‍👦👨‍👩‍👧‍👧👨‍👨‍👧‍👦

How to: Spreadsheet
I also added short instructions to all of the sheets in the spreadsheet itself (look for the orange boxes)

Planning the books you want to read:
- Add books you want to read to the 'Planning' Sheet (green row)
- Add 'TBR' to the yellow 'Status' row - once you start the book you can change the status to 'In Progress'.
- When adding books to the 'planning' tab of the spreadsheet please make sure to add an 'x' (in the corresponding column) in all the rows of the prompts they could fill (you can also edit this later, once you have read the book), so that I can possibly move books around to fill up prompts in the end.

Updating your progress:
- At the end of the day (or whenever you have time to update your progress), you can add the daily pages read/hours listened to row 2 to 25 in the 'Tracking' sheet.

Completed a book:
- Once you have completed a book, change its status in the 'planning' sheet to 'completed' and double check that you have added x's to all the prompt-rows it can fill
- Additionally, add it to one of the prompts in the 'tracking ' sheet (best would be a double/triple prompt that you think we will be able to fill, but I can also move the books around) - and add the hours listened/ pages read for that book in the corresponding columns N and O of the tracking sheet (if you do not want to do this, I can also add them for you, if you track them in this goodreads thread (see below)).
(I have posted a question regarding this part in the leadership board, but this is my guess: There can only be one book added per row, if that row has already been filled, please either add the book in another row of that prompt, or if those have been filled, too, add the book to another prompt it can fill. (If it can not fill any of the available prompts anymore, just let me know here and I will move books around).)
Very important: If possible, it would be wonderful if you could also track your completed books and the pages read/ hours listened per book in this goodreads thread. Then, when I move things around I can easily check whether column N and O still fit.
- If you want to, you can add 'yes' in the complete columns for the 'singles' prompts (else, I will do that whenever I check the spreadsheet, I will also be checking those for the doubles/triples prompts).
- Additionally, add your 'completed' books to the 'completed' sheet, if you feel like it. Else, I can do so, once you changed the status in the 'planning' sheet to 'completed'.

If you have any questions regarding the spreadsheet please feel free to let me know! :)
(I will fill in some of my books tomorrow, if you are looking for examples on how to do so.)

Books under 100 pages (and graphic novels/comics) do not count; but we should be able to start books early again, as long as we leave at least 100 pages to read during the time of the readathon (to be able to fill more prompts) - so feel free to do so, if you want.

If you could track completed books and hours listened/pages read for each book that would be great :)
If you do not want to create a Tracking post you can post a short message in this feed telling me which book you completed and how many pages / hours of listening it was, then I can add it to my excel sheet

Lina | 823 comments Hey team! :) I am very much looking forward to this readathon together with all of you and to reading many (hopefully good) books together!
I will have more time to check out the spreadsheet and prompts later today (and browse through my bookshelves to look for ones that fit the prompts!); so I will the messages above this one (one will be some more readathon / spreadsheet info, one my personal post) later, but maybe we could do a short group introduction to get to know each other a bit before the readathon starts?

My name is Lina, I currently live in Germany (English isn't my first language, but I lived in the USA for a year) - and I recently started a new job, which means I am currently a bit busy (working 12+ hour most days - I have the weekends off at the moment though, so that is nice). But I spend most of my free time reading.
I have always loved to read - I dabble in lots of different genres and this year I have tried to branch out more often than I usually do. I also really enjoy traveling and drawing/ painting.

I had a lot of fun during the last readathon - and I hope we will during this one as well!

bailey (bailsbookshelves) | 1223 comments Hello team! Looking forward to reading with you all for the next couple weeks. I will work on posting my potential books in the spreadsheet today and tomorrow.

How has everyone's year been so far?

christene_littlelibrary (cpaulanavarro) | 439 comments Hi everyone checking in. How are y'all?

message 8: by bailey, Challenges (new)

bailey (bailsbookshelves) | 1223 comments I'm doing well for the most part, Christene! Have had a very busy past few months and haven't been able to be as active in this group as I usually am. Hopefully as the year winds down things won't be quite so crazy for me.

How are you?

Also, does anyone have ideas for a team name??

message 9: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (nicehotcupoftea) | 169 comments Hello everyone, just checking in. I am well thank you and I hope everyone is too.
This is my first readathon here so I'm just having a look at the spreadsheet to see how it works :)
As for a team name, perhaps there is a type of food we all like?

message 10: by Lina (last edited Sep 09, 2023 04:51PM) (new)

Lina | 823 comments Hi Christene, Bailey and Valerie! Happy to hear from you! :)
I am doing well - but I hope my work will quiet down a bit soon (and that my next vacation comes up fast).

I hope your next months will be quieter, Bailey!
My reading year has been pretty good so far, if that was what you were asking! Yours?

I was browsing through possible names connected in some way to family, and came across 'Tightly Knit', 'Emergency Contacts', 'Skeletons in the Closet', 'Partners in Crime', 'All-In', 'Full House'
and related to books: 'Parchment Ponderers', 'Bound By Books', 'Shelf Indulgence', 'Tome Raiders', 'Prose and Cons'

Think any of them are good? Or are there other ideas? (I am sadly terrible at naming things)

I have edited this message with some more information regarding the readathon / how the spreadsheet works.
I will be adding some lists with book ideas for some of the prompts tomorrow.

message 11: by Kristina (new)

Kristina | 631 comments Hi, hi! I had a crazy busy day today with family events and work events, so this is the first time I've been able to even check to see the prompts and team assignments! I'll dive into thinking on book ideas tomorrow which is always fun.

I'm Kristina - I did the last read-a-thon and loved it, so glad to be back for more! I read a ton in my free time and one of my goals this year is to try to actually read all the books I own (I'm the "buy it if it seems remotely interesting and then it sits on my shelf for ages" type, so I have a ton of books on my shelves that I haven't gotten to yet) and challenges are such a great help with that.

Lina, I think a family related name would make sense since this is a family themed event. Team Full House sounds fun, though that might be my 90s baby background showing 😊 I also like the book related names, too! Or a food name like Valerie suggested might be fun... Maybe a fall food since we're finally heading into fall season?

Meg (megscl) | 501 comments Hi all, looking forward to this readathon! I'm Meg from Melbourne Australia. I am a plan ahead kind of reader so I'll be trying to fit my already planned books to prompts.
I may have a strange reading time during September because i have a 4 day work trip (first time away from my kid) and will probably read a lot. Then i have a family holiday for a week and will probably be reading less than usual. Hopefully it will average out OK!

Lina | 823 comments Hi Kristina and Meg, thanks for checking in! :)
I am excited to see what books you wil all be reading during the readathon!

Kristina - I totally understand! I have recebtly turned around all the unread books on my bookshelves, in order to motivate myself to read them / and keep myself from buying more while doing that. Its working so-so haha.

Ill wait for some more opinions on the team name, fall food you mean something like 'Pumpkin Pies' or 'Mashed Potatoes' haha?

I have updated my first message with Links with ideas for the doubles and triples prompts (if you find other links, I will also add them there).
I have also added a couple books I was planning on reading this month to the spreadsheet. For some of them I dont yet actually know what prompts they will tick off - and I might exchange some for other books later on, depending on what prompts we havent filled.

message 18: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (nicehotcupoftea) | 169 comments I've added a couple of my book ideas to the chart, and hoping that I'm doing it correctly, please tell me if I've stuffed it up .

I noticed in the "possible fits" column, the formula for some rows doesn't include Column D.

Bedtime for me now, enjoy the rest of Sunday everyone.
P.S. it's the start of Spring here in upsidedown land ;)

message 19: by Lina (new)

Lina | 823 comments I’ll look at your books when I get home :)

Yes, I noticed the column D thing too, that is why I added them for my book in the rows where it’s needed. But now column D is full so we can just leave it. I’ll double check again later though :)

christene_littlelibrary (cpaulanavarro) | 439 comments I'll add my books soon. I don't know yet what to read.

Kristina | 631 comments I just went in and added some potential TBRs! I may add one or two extras depending - I can read pretty quickly and I'm not very busy that week (aside from a full day at the Ren Fest on Sunday!) so I should be able to power through. And added my tracking post too, which is great because I can link it back more easily in my main challenge thread.

Lina, I totally agree that a system for your bought TBR is so necessary. I've tried that in the past but my self control is just not good enough!

Also just a heads up that I went in and just quickly fixed the formulas on the spreadsheet so that the possible fit sum included column D. Looks like some of the formulas started with column E instead for some reason! I double checked there wasn't the same issue on the Completed tab, but that one looks set to go, with all column Ds included.

If you ever want spreadsheet assistance, feel free to ask - I love spreadsheets and I use Google Sheets a lot for work. 😊

Lina | 823 comments No worries Christene, we have time left! :)

Kristina - Lots of unread books on our shelves means we can be fairly flexible about which books to read in the end though, which seems like it might be great to fill up prompts in the end! (Trying to justify buying more books to myself haha.)
And thanks for fixing that - and for your offer, I will let you know! :)

I will look at all of our books in more detail later- looking forward to seeing what all of you will be reading :)

'Parchment Ponderers', 'Bound By Books', and 'Pumpkin Pies'

Lina | 823 comments One more thing regarding the spreadsheet; I think it might make it easier to have just one row for the doubles and triples in the 'planning' and 'completed' sheet; then we could see at first glance how many possible (and then finished) books we have for each one (it seems a bit messy right now?). If you agree, Ill sort through them, add all x's to one row and reduce them to just one each.

I also still really like those names, bailey!

Also, some triples that we do not yet have any (or many) books for:
- title of the family member in book title
- elderly protagonists
- people who were adopted
- blended families
- group or club
- poly relationships

message 27: by bailey, Challenges (new)

bailey (bailsbookshelves) | 1223 comments I think that's a great idea, Lina! That would definitely make it easier for us to plan out our books.

I still need to go through my tbr and add more possible books. So I can prioritize the prompts you listed above!

message 28: by Lina (last edited Sep 10, 2023 01:08PM) (new)

Lina | 823 comments I have now edited the spreadsheet and I do think it makes it easier to see which prompts we have many books for already and which prompts we are lacking in. Might make it easier to plan :)

Then again, the numbers arent really the final ones, as some books are being counted for so many different prompts.
Best would be if we read books that fit multiple prompts and could be moved around in the end if need be.
I have added a re-read of Harry Potter #1 to my books, as I found that it actually fits around 10 of the prompts (so can be moved around easily).

(And just to point this out:
To maximize points (by ticking off as many prompts as possible) it would be best to read short books / or to start them ahead of time and to only have a small amount of pages (but bigger than 100 pages, or 1.5 hours of an audiobook if listening at x1 speed) left, when the readathon starts.)
But: Most important is that we all have fun - so if you have specific books you have been wanting to read, that is also totally fine :) Please do not feel stressed. I just wanted to shortly explain the concept. :)

Also, books that do not fit any prompts also count towards points (for page points / hours listened), you can enter them at the bottom of the 'tracking' sheet, in the 'page points only' section.

If there are any questions regarding the spreadsheet feel free to let me know! :)

Kristina | 631 comments Hard agree, I think it will make it easier to check how many books we've got for a prompt if they're all on one line.

Also a fan of Pumpkin Pies and Bound by Books! 😊

Lina | 823 comments What do the others think about our team name becoming Bound By Books? It seems to have the most votes at the moment.

And there are so many good books in our planned books. I gotta be careful not to add too many to my tbr list!
Bailey - I hope you will have fun with Crooked Kingdom - its been a while since I read it but I really liked it back then (have got to reread it at some point!).

I've been meaning to commit to Crooked Kingdom since around May so I figure this readathon is a good motivator for finally finishing it!

I see you have Before We Were Yours on your TBR, I read that a few months ago per my mom's recommendation and wow. Can't say I love it, unfortunately, due to the subject matter. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts!

Since we have to read 3 books to get the triples points, I'm going to prioritize the books on my tbr that fit those prompts, then doubles will be next in line, and I'll leave my singles til the end. Is this an okay plan, Lina?

message 37: by Lina (new)

Lina | 823 comments I would really like to know what you think after reading it! How did you like Six of Crows?

I do! I will try to start it early, so that it wont take up as much time during the readathon- but I was happy when I saw that it was available on libby - as I have had it on my tbr for a while! I am glad to hear you thought it was good! Ill let you know what I think of it once I finish!

That sounds like a good plan, Bailey - I am planning on doing that, too! :)
To fill all prompts, we would have to read 70 books (so 10/person average) - and all of them would have to fit together perfectly - which I think is highly unlikely. So it makes sense to prioritize high-point prompts!
And if we find that we are missing some fill-in books in the triples it would also be good if we stay a bit 'flexible' towards the end.

Just in case someone missed it above: you are able to start books early, if you want to. They count towards the prompt points, as long as you have 100 pages /1.5 hours of an audiobook at x1 speed left. Obviously you do not have to do that, though!

I am going to private message Delu today - I think everyone else has checked in.

I am very much looking forward to the Readathon together with all of you :)

Wishing you all a lot of fun on the first Readathon reading day!

Delu, I have added your books to our spreadsheet (you can remove or change them if your plans change), maybe you can add x's for the prompts they fit (or edit those when you complete books). :)
