Liralen | 8223 comments I'm looking at the page for HM King Charles III, and...among other things, it looks like someone has done a wholesale name-change on the profile from something like HRH Prince Charles or HRH The Prince of Wales to HM King Charles III.

Per GR policy, I'm guessing that there should be multiple profiles here at play, but I'd love some guidance before diving in. I assume he falls under 'Authors whose titles are kept to avoid confusion', but not with the HRH, or...? And what sort of Prince Charles / Prince of Wales profiles would we be looking at?

Indeed. So it would be King Charles III
Sorting as: charles iii, king
I don't know how pre-king publications are handled.

Related, I worked on a Pope last week. With Popes, there will be two profiles, one under their real name for pre-pope publications and one under their papal name. But their papal name is different from their actual name.

And another related note: someone removed Queen from Queen Elizabeth II: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ | 2303 comments On a side note, I have suggested to Jaclyn that edits on an author profile go back to being separate from their books. Main reason is a lot of librarians don't seem to understand what public domain is regarding author photos.

Queen Elizabeth II should still have Queen listed.

There isn't such a thing as Elizabeth II.

Also she wrote under the name Queen Elizabeth II.

The Royal website still lists her as Queen Elizabeth II.

Whatever was that librarian thinking!

Great idea! Not only for the photos, but also to make it easier to see who changed or merged author profiles.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ | 2303 comments I used to plough through & try to find the librarian who had done this, (add non public domain photos) but now if I can't find them quickly I just change, leave a note & move on. I'm not going to spend 40 minutes looking through edit records.

It was late when I posted and I couldn't find her profile at first.
I've corrected the profile now to Queen Elizabeth II.
ETA: and also added Queen (back?) to Elizabeth I.

Liralen | 8223 comments I've taken out the HRH styling for King Charles. I think "Charles, the Prince of Wales" would make most sense for his primary pre-ascension page (covers things like "Prince Charles", "The Prince of Wales", etc., in search, and seems generally in line with policy). Thoughts? I'm finding many muddled profiles here.

I don't think I ever heard him called Charles, the Prince of Wales though. I know you are trying to cover all bases, but it just looks wrong to me.

Maybe staff could make a ruling?

Liralen | 8223 comments I'd love to have a staff ruling. (Jaclyn...?) Right now it's all over the place:

H.R.H. The Prince of Wales
H.R.H. Charles The Prince of Wales
HRH The Prince of Wales
HRH Prince Charles

And don't get me started on things like HRH Prince Charles (Intro), but at least that's easily fixable once we know the proper convention.

Book covers mostly seem to have "HRH The Prince of Wales" or similar, though there's the occasional HRH Prince Charles or HRH The Prince Charles Duke of Rothesay.

Sandra | 31429 comments And as we have a new Prince of Wales ie William, I don't think we should keep the generic HRH The Prince of Wales or the other one with the periods.

Thanks Arenda, for some reason that was really bothering me (In case you couldn't guess :D)

And for me it was early in the morning before I'd had a cup of tea :)

Yeah, that's my main concern about leaving "Charles" out of it. Adding spaces would be doable, of course, but doesn't solve the covers where an actual name is on the cover.
