Fiona | 902 comments Thanks for all the well wishes! I’m slightly better but still feeling terrible.

Great news about the stitches, Karen! I hope you’ll recover quickly!

Glad all is going well with the treatment. I was up at the Canopy this morning, we may have well passed each other like ships in the night, LOL. I haven't been to Garcon but I've heard it's good, my usual restaurant of choice is the Four Frogs Creperie. Yummy.

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I've had a really bad sore throat all day so I may be joining the sickness club, but hopefully it is just a sore throat.

I just did a bit of spreadsheet maintenance and we need a D and an I to finish our current spell it out.

Personally, I intend to finish at least 2 more books this round. I'm working on my green book which so far only works for an E and should have that done at some point today. I'm going to work on finishing October's BOM which will give us an I (or a G if the I gets covered). I'm off work for 3 nights now so I may be able to get that other book I have on the spreadsheet done too, but the other 2 are my main focus for now.

message 304: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 816 comments My current Berlin book has everything except E. I have about 150 pages to go but it's a fairly quick read. One of those books with very short chapters, sometimes only 1 or 2 pages.

Can't wait to see what our next word is...

message 305: by Fiona (new)

Fiona | 902 comments I should be able to finish a book today that covers both D and I!

message 306: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I just finished my green book which means we are all done with green covers!

I also did a bit of shuffling on the SS and we have now completed our 7th spell it out!

Oh me too! I think the next bonus might be instruments on the cover.. we will see.

message 308: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments You must be psychic Lisa. 🤣

Round 3 Bonus

For this round, find musical instruments on the cover of your books (any instrument, just has to be obviously an instrument)

Each found instrument will earn an additional 5 bonus points. Only one instrument per book cover and a maximum of 10 bonus instruments. You can find the same instrument multiple times (not least because no one's got time to decide if it's a violin or viola etc etc)

Note to captains: any changes to the standard bonus rules, similar to what was done for Round 2, will not be determined until after the results of Round 2 and the mods see the point spread between teams. A lot can change from round to round.

Vikki (silverstarz) | 1278 comments So our next word is

Alpine Zither

And blue covers

I can definitely tick off some blue covers for that one.

message 310: by Fiona (new)

Fiona | 902 comments Finally something with L! I need to read Little Women for a challenge and it’s been waiting for me since August 😂

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments I'm going to read a couple of your books Elisabeth with the instruments on the cover! 😊

message 312: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 816 comments Thank you, Lisa. 😀 From memory there are 2 violins and a cello.

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 816 comments I have Lessons by Ian McEwan with a piano and good for I and L for starters.

Also a blue cover North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell with N.

I LOVE North and South.. the book is great but the TV adaption with Richard Armitage as John Thornton is even better. 😍

Good! I'm doing a calendar challenge so it's been waiting for November to roll around. Also need an author starting with N. Hmmm

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 816 comments D and O etc turned out to be quite hard. Too restricted, really.

message 318: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I have at least one book with an instrument on. I also have some blue covered books saved up. It's nice to see we have a bit more variety of letters for Round 3.

message 321: by Marie-Anne (last edited Nov 02, 2023 04:50PM) (new)

Marie-Anne | 224 comments I started looking for instrument covers in my library, but that was hard. So I looked if GR has a list with musical instruments on the cover. Here are a few:

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/3...

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/7...

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

One question is on how complete an instrument needs to be.

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 816 comments I think a fried has Evenings With the Orchestra by Hector Berlioz . Not sure if it's this edition, though it is the one I remember having decades ago.

It was written by the composer Hector Berlioz and is very funny particularly if someone's played in a pit orchestra which I have.

Well that's not going to happen! My friend doesn't have the book anymore, it's not in my local library or 2nd hand shop and online starts at $53 and continues to over $100!

Silje (sikna) | 1443 comments I still haven't left the sick club. It's been almost a month since covid, but now I have a low grade fever that won't go away and apparently a rising crp. I have an audio book and an ebook going, but the fatigue is hampering the reading speed.

message 326: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments That sucks, Silje. I hope you start to feel better real soon. Don't stress too much about the books, your health is more important.

Thank you for these links! Sure shows I don't have instruments on covers in my tbr lol

In regards to your question, it really needs to be an obvious instrument.
For example, this came up with the current BOM The Violin Conspiracy by Brendan Slocumb in the captains group and it was agreed this is instrument on cover

message 332: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) | 1278 comments I've been making slow progress on my current book but I will be finished in time for tomorrows deadline

message 333: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments We just finished our 8th spelling!

With just over 12 hours until the end of round 2, please can you let us know if you will be finishing any more books as the captains only get a short time after the deadline to finalise sheets before they are locked.

I've updated the spreadsheet and we have 37 minutes left in the round so any books for round 2 need to be posted before then.
I'll check again closer to the cut off and post when we are in round 3

I've finished my first for the new round :)
The Woman in Me by Britney Spears

I'm older than Britney, so I didn't grow up with her, or her music. By the time she debuted I was well into grunge stage and didn't pay a whole lot of attention.
Since #freebritney started I have been interested in the conservatorships in America and how we treat female stars differently. And it was through that lens that I found myself wanting to read this book.
What a horrible 13 years she endured. Hopefully she can now find herself again.

message 349: by Marie-Anne (new)

Marie-Anne | 224 comments I'm thinking about reading Puccini's Ghosts Puccini's Ghosts by Morag Joss .
Before I do, I wanted to check if this is enough to qualify for instrument: There are 3 partial violins on the cover, the one at the top is nearly an entire instrument.

message 350: by Elisabeth (new)
