Comments on this board should be written with the assumption that not all readers have finished the book. Please take care not to reveal information that might lessen other readers’ enjoyment.

Terry | 396 comments I have pre-ordered it.

I’m definitely in on this one.

Connie G (connie_g) | 655 comments My library has it on order, and I'm on the hold list.

Carol (fleter) | 75 comments Looking forward to this one!

I'm with Connie, I'm #1 on the hold list at my library, but sometimes it takes them awhile to get it processed. Pub date is tomorrow, so fingers crossed it's soon. No way I'm missing a new Ron Rash!

I can't get hold of a copy until November so I'll have to sit this one out.

message 9: by Diane, "Miss Scarlett" (new) - rated it 5 stars

Diane Barnes | 5544 comments Mod
No worries Dave. I've had to do that a few times myself.

♥ Sandi ❣ | 289 comments I am #3 of 5 holds, however my library is processing a copy, so unless someone else at my own library put a hold on it, I should be the first to get as soon as it is processed in. Within days is my hope.

Lori Keeton | 781 comments My library doesn’t have it at all!🤷🏼‍♀️ you guys are lucky to be waiting

Cathrine ☯️ | 1183 comments So far mine doesn't have it either.
I guess we should give it a month after publication before nominations set in. Still I have hope.

Cheryl Carroll | 586 comments 👋Hello book club buds. Ron Rash will be at the Eudora Welty house this Friday. It doesn't look like there's a virtual attendance option 😟, but if you're close enough to Jackson this is a great opportunity. https://www.facebook.com/eudoraweltyh...

@Cathrine - that sounds like a good idea, especially since so many of the group get their books from the library.

message 14: by Lexy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lexy | 175 comments I was fortunate to be the first taker at the library. Woohoo!

I missed out on the Michael Ferris Smith book for that very reason.

Carol (fleter) | 75 comments Looking forward to this one!

I made this my monthly pick for Audible. I have another audiobook that I need to listen to before it gets recalled but I'll definitely listen to this next month.

Cathrine ☯️ | 1183 comments On order and I'm #1 in the queue so looking good.

message 19: by Diane, "Miss Scarlett" (new) - rated it 5 stars

Diane Barnes | 5544 comments Mod
Yay! Mine is on "available soon" status, so maybe in a week or so. At least I'm first on the list.

Cathrine ☯️ | 1183 comments This may just turn out to be a "GROUP" read after all 😀

Connie G (connie_g) | 655 comments The library processed the book quickly and I just picked it up. I still have to read some in-person book club books first.

Maybe our libraries are feeling the heat!

♥ Sandi ❣ | 289 comments I got my copy, however it will come after a few other books I need to get read. Between 'life' intervening, and backing me up on books, I also had family here for a few days and all we did was run. So I am finally trying to catch up on books. I have nothing pressing right now, except a vet appt, a blood draw for me, a Dr's appt, an appt for them to come and check out my furnace for the winter, an eye Dr appt, and more...lol! Life is not boring - for sure.

♥ Sandi ❣ | 289 comments I agree - getting books that actually publish in the month they are nominated is tough! I think we will have the same problem with Let Us Descend which is so far winning one of the upcoming polls. I have had that on hold for some time and those books are not even in yet. In my library system they are getting 4 books - none at my own library - and I am 12th in line for 4 books - books that do not even publish for a few days yet. So I am maybe apt to get it in November - but probably not very early in the month. Great to read brand new books, but so hard to get.

message 25: by Josh (new) - rated it 4 stars

Josh | 42 comments About 1/3 of the way through. Haven't read Rash in quite some time, but enjoying this one so far. It's amazing how so many characters can be drawn up that you relate so much to or at least have had someone act in that way towards you in your life.

Carol (fleter) | 75 comments I’m 23% of the way in. I am loving the book. The character build is so solid, on the one hand it feels almost slow as it is so richly done; on the other hand I feel suspense building. I can’t wait to see where this one goes!

Terry | 396 comments My copy arrived today, but I am not quite ready to read it yet.

message 28: by Laura, "The Tall Woman" (new) - rated it 5 stars

Laura | 2848 comments Mod
I’m about where Carol is. I’ve been hesitant to comment bc I want to see where this is going as well. It’s kind of nice to just enjoy the plot.

♥ Sandi ❣ | 289 comments I have both of this months books, but they will be a little while. I still have to finish up last months books - I am soooooo far behind!

Camie | 107 comments This one is worth the wait !! On the flap John Grisham calls it “ a race to the finish book” so once you get it, it’s a quick read.

Connie G (connie_g) | 655 comments Ron Rash starts off the book with a terrifying scene on the ice of a Korean river that is unforgettable. Most of the rest of the story is in a small Appalachian town in western NC in the 1950s. As always, Ron Rash has such insight into human nature, and wonderful descriptions of the region. It's one of my favorite books of the year!

I was able to listen to the audio version in just under three days. It was excellent. I highly recommend it. I won't say more until folks have a bit more time to get into it.

♥ Sandi ❣ | 289 comments Looking at my library list I see that I cannot renew this book, where I can renew the McCrumb book, if need be, so I will be starting this book tomorrow.

The audiobook is available on Hoopla.

Finally I got it through the Libby App, even though the "real" book is still available soon. So, I have the first chapter under my belt, and it has started off with a bang.

♥ Sandi ❣ | 289 comments I got the first 4 chapters read last night before my eyes totally shut on me - lol - will read more today.

I'm 66 pages in and had to stop yesterday for real life. Absolutely hating Jacob's parents.

I just finished and this has replaced Serena as my favorite Ron Rash novel. I'll move over to final impressions now.

Cathrine ☯️ | 1183 comments Doesn't look promising for me this month. I'm still #1 in the queue but still showing On Order. Really taking a long time for this to get to Processing and only 1 library of all the ones in our county have it on order.

message 40: by Dave, "Red Sammy" (new) - added it

Dave Marsland | 589 comments Mod
I'm with you Cathrine. I asked in the library and they replied "Ron who?"
So I bought a copy but it's not due to arrive for yonks.

My library has had the hardback copy on Available now for a month with no action. I finally saw it on Libby with no holds so I jumped on it. Doesn't matter when you read it, just get to it when you can.

message 42: by Laura, "The Tall Woman" (new) - rated it 5 stars

Laura | 2848 comments Mod
Yes, I had to jump on audio. I plan on trying to buy a signed copy eventually.

Terry | 396 comments If I can just through The Unquiet Grave, this book will be up next for me.

♥ Sandi ❣ | 289 comments Like Diane I finished it tonight...but it's late so may be tomorrow before I go to the final thread.

Catherine I have had a book on hold at my library since early July - there are 3 books in my system, and they are being lent out, but it seems that being number one in the queue is not getting me anywhere. Think it it time to ask one of my librarians what the hold up may be. It has been over 4 months now.

Cathrine ☯️ | 1183 comments Yes Sandi, that happened to me with the ebook I'm currently reading and I too have meant to call and ask the librarian. One week I was #1 and then I was #2, once #3, back to #1. It took way longer to get that book than it should have, and it was my home library.

Terry | 396 comments I am just starting this one, my first for this author who it seems has written a lot.

He is a favorite on the Trail Terry, I'm pretty sure you'll like this one.

Cathrine ☯️ | 1183 comments From my library today . . . Sigh
"Thank you for your suggestion. The the caretaker has been added to our next order. Adding the item may take 6-8 weeks."

message 49: by Diane, "Miss Scarlett" (new) - rated it 5 stars

Diane Barnes | 5544 comments Mod
That's disappointing Cathrine.

Terry | 396 comments Catherine, I may now be lagging behind too! I am attending a conference and probably won’t get back to this book for a week at least. By then I probably will have forgotten what little I have read and will have to start over. And then, I have other books I have to read in November, so this may be on a slow track for me as well. I will check back in a week or so.
