Ulmer Ian (eean) | 341 comments So I did a terrible job keeping track of which short stories I enjoyed reading last year, so I didn't have much to nominate for the Hugo. I'll use this thread to add stories I especially liked and would encourage others to do the same.

Cassandra by Ken Liu in Clarkesworld - I really like the "clairvoyance as super power" trope (like in Bitter Seeds) and this executes it really well I thought.

These are the two best ones I've read so far. Not sure if I would call them Hugo worthy, but we'll see at the end of the year.

Kevin | 701 comments The story "Stay" by Daniel José Older in Firside Magazine Issue 22, is my favourite short of the year so far.

(scroll down to get past the striking cover art by Galen Dara)

It's a very human story, with the "speculative" part being that it's from the point of view from a ghost who "haunts" a young man.

My current fave is Ambiguity Machines by Vandana Singh:

Not a short story, but given that you like the trope, you should try the Alex Verus books by Benedict Jacka.
