Steph will be sending a broadcast as she does every Bingo round.

Check in, in about 2 or 3 days time so you should be good Sarah :)

Sandra | 25910 comments Don't forget to add any books you'd like to read to our SOS Bookshelves.

We're using a lot of our shelves this round, so this is a good way to have the right books all ready.

message 7: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (nemerith) | 1201 comments I'm probably looking right over it, but I can't seem to find how to add books to the SOS Bookshelves.
Could someone please link the relevant thread/tutorial?

message 8: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32706 comments Hey y’all. As Sandra mentioned, I’ll be sending a broadcast message once the signup thread is up and open, but to our bingo alert group members only. If you’d like to get broadcast messages and you’ve haven’t already joined make sure to signup there now.

SOS’ Bookshelf Bingo Alerts Group

Victoria, you should be able to access our bookshelf here, then in the top left corner (above the shelf listing) you’ll see an option to ‘add book’. It’s a bit different from personal shelving, but similar enough it should make sense. Search for the book, use as many shelf tags as you’d like, any that fit the book, and save. If you run into any problems, lemme know and I’ll do what I can to help.

PLEASE make sure to shelve/tag any additions as ‘read’, not ‘to-read’ or ‘currently-reading’; those two tags are for group reads only. Thanks!

Steph (angel4492) | 32706 comments Just a head's up, y'all, our shelves for this round are a bit different. I've used a letter of the alphabet for each shelf - each letter (or letter combo) consists of (1) a spring-themed word and categories and (2) a few shelves, each fitting the letter of the shelf. You may choose your book from any one of those listed. Take a peek (R25 shelves) and let me know if you have any questions.

And, as Sandra mentioned, be sure to utilize the time before we begin to add books you may like to read to the group's bookshelf. Adds are allowed up until the first shelf announcement is posted. Please make sure to use the 'read' tag; 'to-read' and 'currently-reading' are exclusively for group reads. Thanks!

Steph (angel4492) | 32706 comments Anyone using Amazon's Beta "Your Books" feature (https://www.amazon.com/your-books)? I decided to check it out to see if it'd be any help choosing books for this round of bingo. It's kinda helpful when searching for specific words in a title or series. Also noticed they now show all of your highlights and notes, similar to GR.

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 1376 comments I have a question about "P" "Pruning"- more than 3 books in the series left on TBR, would the 3 include the book I am currently up to? For example on the Guild Hunter series my next to read is book 13 and there are 16 in the series. So I technically have four books to read, but only three after 13. I know this is probably splitting hairs and me being neurotic lol.

I also realize that most of that particular series is PNR and would fit for that category.

I'm compiling books ahead of time so I don't find myself scrambling to pick.

message 16: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25910 comments Sarah, it would include the book you're up to, as you haven't yet read it.

And I have the same problem, with Guild Hunter, and planned to do the same.

Got it!

Thank you! :)

I'm glad we're in the same boat, I'd love to finish it up now that we are getting to the end.

I have checked it recently, and the series view is especially nice.
The one thing I'm missing is the filter option to hide all the books already read. It should be possible as Amazon can track that as well. Maybe that is something they will add in the future *fingers crossed*

message 19: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32706 comments Thanks, Sandra. That's what I was thinking for that one; 3+ books remain TBR in a series you've already started. Y'all enjoy GH! I'm jealous. I gobble them as soon as they hit my kindle, typically. I'm really enjoying my re-read of the series, too.

Speaking of this round's shelves ... what do y'all think of it? Like the shelf link/category combo or not so much? 😉 You're stuck with it this round, but I'd like to know for future rounds.

I like that view, too, Victoria. They should add it! IMO, they need someone who reads books to handle their kindle department. They could be doing so many things better - online and with the kindles, again IMHO. 🤨😆

message 20: by Steph, Serious series addict (last edited May 03, 2024 09:18PM) (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32706 comments Correction made to shelf announcement page: I caught an error I made on the list for "T". I'd listed "SOS-were-shifter" as an available shelf in error. The only shelves for that letter will be the 3 trilogy links included. No change to the spring-themed categories listed. Sorry & thx!

It's a series I've always enjoyed but let get away from me. It happened with Jane Yellowrock series too, I just have the last book left and Idk why I just haven't done it already. lol

I like the shelf link/category combo it gives me plenty to choose from. I'm usually a mood reader so having options was very helpful. Last round there were a couple calls where I felt a little boxed in with having to choose from only one or two lol. But that's really just me being that way.

What do you mean, getting to the end? No no nonono, that series will continue FOREVER!

I have two left to read in the series that I'm keeping for Bingo :-)
(And 4 in Psy-Trinity, while we're at it.)

Uuuuuhuh!!! There is so much potential, but they kinda shoot themselves in the foot with it... ah well, at least there is still Goodreads :D

I love it!! You're giving us a few (or rather, a lot of) options instead of only one category. I can believe setting up the list was a lot of work, but it's super appreciated!!!
I've been going through them and checking each shelf to see which book I'm going to read if it gets called (I love making lists, haha).

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 716 comments For the shelves that list a cover color, is there a percentage of that color that is needed to qualify?

Oh no, you’re not alone. I’m right there with ya. I’ve mostly stopped joining challenges because being a mood reader made it feel more like a chore than something fun. I’m glad the new combo options are a help.

ETA: my OCDemoness and love of lists makes it a struggle to NOT join challenges though 🤪

Not a specific percentage, but I’d say the majority (over 50%). You’re always welcome to post a cover here and we can yay/nay it beforehand, if you’re unsure.

This is me overthinking a prompt. I only add the next in series to my TBR. So in the case of this Guild Hunter example, if Sarah had #13 on her TBR, but the others exist outside of her shelf, does it work, or do all the books need to be on your personal shelf?

Oh... that's a good point Laura. I kind of do both - some series I put all the known books on my TBR, but some, like you, I add them as I get to them. But when I read this prompt, I was thinking the whole series being on your TBR by default even if they aren't physically on your TBR. That could be trouble...

Laura, LaurLa and all - you don't have anything to worry about. If the book choice was being made off of a literal shelf (one with a link provided in the requirements) it'd matter. In that case, any book, no matter where in the series is fell, must be on the actual shelf linked. Just being a part of a series, which has one book shelved, doesn't qualify your choice unless it's also shelved as such. But, in this case, with the case of any "category" book choice made, just the fact that the book fits whatever criteria is listed qualifies the book.

You can search for, say, a book with a yellow cover and find one you'd like to read, but don't have on-hand or on any of your GR shelves. You can get that book from the library, as a KU loaner, buy it, whatever and it'd qualify as long as the cover was (mostly) yellow.

I hope that helps reassure you. Lemme know if I've made it any more confusing 🤪

No TBR shelves have been harmed in the production of this Bingo game.

Eldarwen | 2200 comments Heya Steph,

just a little heads-up in case you want to rectify but I'm sure we'll find the correct shelves even without that :-)
In the announcement post:

- the GR Gargoyle(s) shelves link to the GR Dragon(s) shelves
- the GR Nephilim shelf links to the GR Magic shelf

Laura | 1168 comments What if we have a team member who hasn't checked in yet? I don't want to be pushy and send a PM after a message was just sent out yesterday. - She checked in, so never mind.

I think the link for GR Oracles might be incorrect. It goes to a shelf that says Half Oracles, and there are 0 books on it.

message 50: by Laura (last edited May 08, 2024 08:16PM) (new)

Laura | 1168 comments Just double checking. I have One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid checked out from the library. It is neither part of a series, nor paranormal in any way (that I know of). Is it okay to read this one, or should I keep looking? - My mood is totally calling for something different, so never mind. :)
