I'm a troglodyte who doesn't use my phone much, either. In fact, when I went for my second visit to a dentist and realized I was driving to the wrong place I thought I'd have to go to the local library and use their computer to find out where the office was since I was not far from it. As I turned left from my route to go to the library I remembered that I have data on my cell so parked, turned on the data and found the address.

I love my desktop with my large screen and am not fond of the little screens on my phone or apps.

Now you can help her by first switching her to the desktop version -- then you go to town with show and tell!

I really liked it too. Both Majesty’s Dragon and Fourth Wing do have magical realism tags. I read Throne of Jade this year too, but I didn’t like it as much. I’m going to guess that Magical Realism has a better chance because it overlaps with both Philosophy and Dragons.

That sounds like a good idea. If Magical realism or philosophy wins, I think I’ll finally get to Midnight's Children by Salmon Rushdie. Murakami might require an extra push for me.

I love that entire series!

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11090 comments Is anyone interested in reading The Secret History? It sounds like it might be suitable for a buddy read. or has everyone already read it?

It’s been on several of my Subdue boards this year, and it fit at least 3-4 tags this year, including Winter, and it also fits Philosophy. It fits other challenges too. It’s bound to get picked soon!

@Nancy, I have it currently sitting on my bedside table to read for the Winter tag but fear I'm going to have to return it before I start it. I've heard such mixed reviews and I did not love The Goldfinch so it is one I want to read but also reluctant to start. All that to say that I do have interest.

Yes, I think it’s been like that with me too! I’ve had so many nudges this year to read it, but I haven’t, Ursula hasn’t been cooperative- OR maybe she’s been protecting me from a dark book.

The next time my hold comes up, I think I’ll give it 20 minutes to see if it pulls me in right away.

I read it when it first was published and really liked it. I have not read any more of her work though. Literate friends who read The Goldfinch too said they are very different books. I would say Tartt is a polarizing author. Also so many derivative works have been published and read since, what was originally daring and edgy won't register the same.

Winter plays an important role in it and in fact that is what I remember most vividly - the impact of winter on the narrator.

I also think it fits into the Patricia Highsmith, Ruth Rendell, and Josephine Tey style of crime fiction.

I read it back then and I was one of the few who didn’t care for it. I think it has some of the thriller/horror aspect, which isn’t my thing. I loved The Goldfinch, but it is very different.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12594 comments It was a DNF for me a few years ago, though many have told me to give it another chance. I am not motivated enough to do that though.

Love it! My husband is still working and isn't search savvy. He uses the internet only once in a while for a few things--he's never used data on his cell and only started texting because his customers text him.

DianeMP | 15 comments This choice is far easier than most. I no longer read books about dragons. Same goes for philosophy. I do, however, still read magic realism in fiction. So goes my vote.

The voting is now closed so we’ll probably find out in the morning!

KateNZ | 4101 comments Well The Best Pet of All just got the big tick of approval from a certain four and a half year old. There was much giggling. Thanks for the tip, Tessa!!

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8426 comments Well, that four-and-a-half year old has great taste in books!
