November 2023 Group Read Nominations

Definitely fits the theme! (I enjoyed both of those as well).

This was a previous group read, so it is ineligible. Please check the link in the first paragraph, and feel free to suggest another.

This one mentions a cabin in the snow on an island--doesn't really fit the theme...

The Michigan Dogman: Werewolves and Other Unknown Canines Across the U.S.A.
Real Wolfmen: True Encounters in Modern America
The Mothman Prophecies
Most of the sightings took place in the wildlife preserve.
National Park Mysteries & Disappearances: The Great Smoky Mountains National Park
When the Moon Shines

Most cryptid sightings take place on or near the woods, and this book is the scariest I ever read.

Midnight Sun by the wonderful Ramsey Campbell, a very sinister tale that will put you off forests forever!
Or - The Magic Cottage by James Herbert. A special book by a very special horror writer.
Or why not have a look at Suicide Forest, by Jeremy Bates? That is a seriously dark exploration of a real place and real events, dramatised in a shocking read!
Shivers guaranteed xXx
Kristen wrote: "The Troop Nick Cutter
What Lies in the Woods Kate Alice Marshall"
THE TROOP was a previous group read (see link in first paragraph), and is not eligible.
What Lies in the Woods, fits perfectly (I have this on my own TBR list).

These are mostly non-fiction books. We read HORROR NOVELS for our group reads in this group, a.k.a., fiction. I think the last one on the list was fiction/horror, so that's fine, but we're not a cryptozoology group.

I did not see it recommended but if it was already, I absolutely add my vote.

(I have been a v. good boy & have not suggested any of my own horror novels set in forests :D Happy nearly Halloween!)

Another vote for this amazing book.

+1 for The Watchers by A.M. Shine
Oh, a great idea! The Watchers have been on my TBR pile for a while
Amanda wrote: "+1 for The Troop by Nick Cutter"
Again, THE TROOP was a previous group read and is NOT eligible. Please check the link provided in the top paragraph.

We appreciate you not nominating your own books, but most of these were on the previous group reads list and are ineligible. PLEASE read the first paragraph and use the link to check your choices first.

The Devil's Woods by Brian Moreland
and
Forest of the Damned by Lee Mountford
+1 The Woods Are Dark by Richard Laymon
+1 The Forest by Michaelbrent Collings

I added this to my TBR list in August....I had no idea it was going to be made into a movie. Thank you to whoever shared this fact.
Love having the chance to read a novel first and then see it in the theater! Looks like June 2024 release

In continuing our Spooky Season, it's time to start the nominations for November's Group Reads. The theme for this month is "INTO THE WOODS"--we're looking for horror books that take place in dense forests and creepy woodland areas. Let's stay away from the more common reads, such as Pet Sematary, which most have read before.
*Any books read as a group read in the past 5-6 years are ineligible.* Here is a link to our past group reads (if you scroll down, you'll find an alphabetized list if you're searching for a certain title):

As always, authors may NOT nominate their own work.
Books with the most +1, seconds, thirds, etc., are more likely to make it onto the final poll for voting.
Let's see what chilling reads we can come up with!
