Luís, I was curious about this book and was checking out its info. It looks like something you could suggest in the Science Fiction/Fantasy 2024 planning thread, or perhaps if there is a children's book thread for next year.

Also, this version you linked is rather short, not a hefty or husky, as is this Penguin classic version The Wonderful Adventure of Nils Holgersson. But I see this other English version Nils: The Wonderful Adventures of Nils / The Further Adventures of Nils Holgersson is over 400 pages but from the title in the link, it sounds like it's two books in one?

I read the Lagerlof book a few years ago, Luis. It was a fun read.
Our group read it in November 2017. You'll find the discussion thread in the Archives, 2017 Group Reads.

Here's the thread Luis. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Based on Rosemarie's advice I went ahead and read the successor novel Further Adventures of Nils. As Jen pointed out, the two Nils stories often are bundled together in one book.

Brian E Reynolds | -1125 comments Thank Goodness The Stars Look Down got the 2nd Quarter Husky slot. As I nominated The Stars Look Down I felt morally obligated to be reading it early on in whatever quarter it was selected for. But being pretty well booked-up for January and February I hoped that The Stars Look Down wouldn't wind up in the 1st Quarter slot. So....Whew! I'll be ready to go in April.

I'm also very interested in reading 3rd Quarter Husky Lies and Sorcery a book I hadn't even heard of until this thread. My only question will be hard copy or Kindle or both. And...

Thanks Pyangie for using your powers to read my telepathic requests not to slate either of those 2 books in the 1st Quarter.

You're welcome, Bryan! I'm glad the schedule works well for you.

And thanks all for your suggestions and votes. I'm happy to know you all are happy with the selections. We have some great reads ahead.

Jen R. (rosetung) | 401 comments @Brian happy to know you’re into Lies and Sorcery too. I’ve only learned of Morante recently from Rosemarie cuz she’s on the schedule for Authors around the World.
If I remember right, this book is only recently published in English in an unabridged version and NYTimes did a nice little write up about it.

I noticed Faerie Queen falls in the middle of summer. That will definitely make it easier for me to try tackling it, because I do not take summer courses.

That's so nice of you, Rosemarie. I need some words of appreciation these days to bring down my stress level as I'm working like mad on my first semester assignments which are due in two weeks.

I wanted to postpone organizing my thread until then. But, I saw some like to know the schedule in advance so they could prepare for the year ahead.

Everything is always due at the same time, isn't it?

I did not realize Elsa Morante was a subject in the NTLTRC Authors Around the World thread. When Jen first mentioned the other book group she was reading Morante in, I mistakenly thought she was referring to either another GR group or an in-person book group. I did not track the Authors Around the World Pairs selection process as I decided to just wait and see their selection outcome.

Now I see that Authors Around the World group will cover Morante along with Colette in April and May and this Morante Husky read will be later in July to September. As Rosemarie explains there has been such duplication before. But as there is no time frame overlap here, I will choose to wait and read Lies and Sorcery in the Husky 3rd Quarter slot and skip the Around the World discussion of her. However, I will read a Colette perhaps Gigi / The Cat since there is a cat theme.

Piyangie, I hope I didn't trouble you too much! I was hesitant to ask cuz I know this is a stressful time of year. Thank you again, I very much appreciate you and having the schedule before I leave town so I know the January reads I need to bring with me.

Brian, that's probably what I will do as well. And actually that is the Colette I also have my eye on.

Piyangie, I get it. I have the major project for both my classes due in the next wk to wk and half. I refuse to stress to much. I'll get it done.
