Now I need to catch up on all the reviews I have not written because I was too busy reading the books and didn't have time to write about them!

My final total for 2023 is 385 (which I'm happy about) but with 2022 and 2021 at 407, I have some catching up to do this year!!

Carolyn | 9855 comments I've been amusing myself this weekend weeding my tbr shelf. It was almost up to 2000 books (ie 10y reading for me, if I read nothing else!) and is now just over 1100.

Still too many books, but I use it like a library to find books for challenges so I kept anything that might be useful for that in the future.

Great work Carolyn! 900 removed is pretty awesome! My problem is that my TBR shelf is all books I own!! Some I've removed in the past, and given them to my son and family who get a credit for them to buy more. But it's hard because "I might read this one, one day", seems to be the refrain!!!

I've kept all the unread books I own in the list as I do hope to read them one day! They're mostly on my kindle these days.

I try to do it every year and mainly remove the ones that have been there for years that I've less interest in now. And the list is bound to grow again soon as it's so easy to click 'want to read' when you read a great review!

Good on you Carolyn. Well done. Mine is just under 1500. But few are books I own. Rely heavily on the library.

message 137: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 9855 comments Continuing on from cleaning up my tbr shelf, I started tidying some of my other shelves and came across 30 books marked 'Read' (no rating, no review) which I'm sure I should have been marked 'to be read'.

I've noticed this happen a few times before before when books I've added to my tbr list are somehow marked as read and thought I must just have clicked the wrong shelf.

Anyway I decided to check my 'read shelf' looking for books that had no rating and I found 720 books 'Read' but not rated, none of which I have read. I'm really puzzled by this, so wondered if anyone else has noticed this happening?

Needless to say my tbr is going to be back up to 2000 by the time I sort this out!!!

message 138: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 80111 comments Mod
Oh no Carolyn! I've had that happen occasionally but nothing like that volume! I always felt it was how I clicked "want to read" and GR sent it straight to "read". Could be wrong and it could well be "another" glitch! I hope you can sort it - 720 is mind boggling!

Our next Sydney get together date is chosen and the thread created. If anyone in the vicinity is interested in coming along, click on the link and put your name down :) We always have lots of fun and come home with at least one new book :)

A few times when I’ve created a book or added a new edition, it has been added to my Read shelf automatically. I always discover it reasonably quickly though.

That’s what I thought too Brenda - but 720 times seems too much to be a glitch. I’ll have to be a lot more vigilant!

Do you own those 720 books? Are some on your kindle and some real? What a nightmare!!

Carolyn | 9855 comments Brenda wrote: "Do you own those 720 books? Are some on your kindle and some real? What a nightmare!!"

I own some of them on my kindle, a few in paperback, but some are just ones I clicked on as ones I might want to read in case I see that at the library or a book fair. I'm still puzzled as to how it happened (and hope it stops!)

The other thing I've noticed (sorry if this is getting boring for everyone else!) is that my Read +To be Read shelves have around 5000 books on them but my total library is over 8000. What (and where) are the extra 3000 books?

My all shelf shows more books than I actually have on that shelf if you multiply the number of pages by how many books on each page.

If I do your calculation Carolyn I have 2569 books unaccounted for. I think we have to accept that the 'all' shelf is a mystery which we will probably never explain.
