I don't really ascribe to "best" when it comes to books; some of my favorite books now I would have hated when I was younger and vice versa. That said, Ohio by Stephen Markley had a huge impact on me, and I drove 2 hours to get his signature on my copy. Gave it a 5 start rating when I joined this site. Also felt the burn reading some of the more vitriolic reactions from people who didn't like it. But we're readers...of course we're passionate :)

The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O'Farrell. I gave it a 2/5, mostly because I thought it had way too much unnecessary and meaningless description. The characters also had very little nuance. They were either 100% good or pure evil with basically no in-between.

On a brighter note, I'm a little over halfway through The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, and I absolutely love it.

A little life and it was the most depressing 5/5 book! lol

Just finished the "Widow's Fate" by Jeff Wheeler and excellent author and rated it 5/5 stars. Been a while since I read a 300 page book in one day and this was the day and the book.

I gave it a 5/5. I originally gave it a 4/5 but I was caught off guard by the ending so I changed it.

Starter Villain. 5 stars.

Megan Lally’s ‘That’s Not My Name’ would be a solid 8 overall, but an 11 when it comes to making me care.

I thought it was stupidly sweet when the two protags met each other, and like typical teenagers figured that only one of them would make it out.

The pacing for how the two converge is suspenseful, because what he’s doing doesn’t seem like it’s getting him anywhere but trouble.

Lola, I loved her so much, that when reading my next book, Emma Lord’s ‘Begin Again’, I made a writing prompt based off the book and wrote her into the story, because I wanted to see her happy.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë - 5/5! I put off reading this classic for a long time because I thought it was going to be a mindless Cinderella-style gothic romance like all the others. I was so wrong! Very rich, moving, and funny.

Island of the Blue Dolphins and I rate it 5 out of 5. wow this book was so good, its a true story and it inspires you to not give up when its tough days. Our will can and will find a way to overcome many obstacles and hardships. please read if you haven't already.

One of my favorites, the banter or little 'back an forths', between Jane and Edward are quite amusing. And when Jane is trying to decide if she should marry St. John, the whole scene is so captivating, her struggle on whether to be submissive and comply or to remain her true self, strong and plastered with fortitude, and walk away...angered me even during my second reading. My brain was screaming..."Jane, if you marry this contemptuous jerk, l'll never read this story again!" Granted, knew the answer...but the whole scene is so masterful written...you loss track of yourself reading. If you ever get a chance, watch the movie with Orson Wells, black and white version, it follows the storyline of the book rather well and Orson is at his best in this role.
