Dead Blow

Lisa Preston
5 stars!
A great horse story about a female farrier (horse short) and 2 murders. And watch out for Dragoon the two thousand pound bull!
Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk

David Sedaris
A collection of short animal based stories. Some have shocking endings and may be a tad bloody. Not for kids as contains naughty words.
4 stars

Finished this one yesterday:
Live and Let Chai

Bree Baker
4 stars
This is the first book about Everly Swan who lives in Charm North Carolina and runs her tea shop. Her family is cursed and she finds a body on the beach. Of course she starts snooping as it's a mystery. These books are fun reads and Everly gets herself into the most crazy situations. Added bonus are her two pets Lou the seagull and Maggie the cat. There is also a relationship between Everly and the local detective Grady. I actually started the series by reading book #2 and then read all the others in order so now I have finished the series.
This morning I read:
Lotería

Mario Alberto Zambrano
This is the dark story about an 11 year old girl and her troubled family, alcoholic father. Very bad things happen. The story also revolves around Mexican bingo cards that have pictures on them. I didn't exactly understand everything in here (like why a harp is supposed to be called a girl) and there were many Spanish words throughout the book. The story itself is very good and the cards - in full color - are beautiful.
3 stars.

When the Moon Hatched

Sarah A. Parker
Rated it 5 stars.
This is not only a story of revenge but also one of a woman who is hiding the truth from herself. Because sometimes things happen that are so bad you hide it. And yes it's full of dragons and magic! The copy I read was 690 pages!

Shadow Divers

Robert Kurson
5 stars!
This is so vivid! It's nonfiction that really makes you feel like you are there with the divers trying to solve the mystery of this World War II U-boat (and the U means "unterseeboot" which means "under sea boat"). This is a real page turner. Almost reads like fiction.
The Berry Pickers

Amanda Peters
3 stars.
I know this book is very popular but it didn't do much for me. I wanted a real mystery but the mystery was solved by page 23! Not what I was expecting. At all. Plus the entire story was depressing.

5 stars.
A great summer read and also funny!

The Royal Hunt of the Sun

Peter Shaffer
I rated this old play 2 stars. It was pretty boring and I struggled to read it. It's about Pizarro invading the Incas in Peru.
The Amalfi Curse

Sarah Penner
Rated this 4 stars.
It's a good story and has a duel timeline. About sea witches.
A Pony in the Picture: Vintage Portraits of Children
and Ponies

Victoria Randall
4 stars.
Vintage photos of children with ponies. Plus short paragraphs of texts with info. The details you see in the pictures is very interesting.

The Mother Next Door: Medicine, Deception, and Munchausen by Proxy

Andrea Dunlop
I rated this 4 stars.
What these mothers who have Munchausen do was very shocking!

The Fourth Monkey

J.D. Barker
I rated it 3 stars. I found it to be kind of average serial killer story and I wasn't really compelled to read it.

More Was Lost: A Memoir

Eleanor Perényi
5 stars!! This was just so incredibly vivid! I was totally hooked and I read it on one sitting!

Dead of Summer

Jessa Maxwell
4 stars.
This was a slow build mystery about two women going to an isolated island with weird, reclusive people. Each goes there for their own reasons. The final end was shocking.

Hi, Just wanted to say that both of the series by Slaughter are incredibly good! The " Grant County" novels are outstanding but I love the "Will Trent" series, too. I read them backwards, ha, ha. Not recommended.
