A tough one for me. Kyle Mills "swan song" in the Mitch Rapp series was not the explosive story I was expecting. The first 3/4 of the book was basically the intro into where it was taking us, and then all Mitch, all the time. I suppose that is fine, I do love Mitch. However, I was disappointed that Scott Coleman and the gang were no where to be found until the last scenes of the story.

An old adversary calls in the marker Mitch owes him. Reluctant, but knowing he needs to honor it, Mitch goes into a situation that is colored with shadows and uncovers a situation neither of them anticipated. With true Rapp style the final lead up to the confrontation does explode and the ending was perfect. There lies my dilemma. Kyle Mills does bow out of the series being true to Flynns character, yet for me it took too long to get there.

A new author will pick up the series and I can only hope Don Bentley stays true to the life of Mitch. I have only read him with one or two the books he has written for Tom Clancy. I am thinking of picking up the first book in Bentley's Matt Drake series to see what his style is like, though I doubt not liking it will effect my continuing with Rapp. Mitch and I have been a yearly affair for years. I had doubts about Mills after he picked up the Rapp series, upon Flynn's death. I anticipate that Flynn's wife and estate knew what they were doing when they chose Bentley to carry on.
