Jennifer | 80 comments Do you love a series? Do you prefer something short, like a duology or trilogy, or are you into long series? Do you like a strict narrative series that is always about the same characters, or the looser ones that are in the same world but focus on different people or time periods?
I enjoy various kinds of series, but probably like ones that go into different characters, at least for some stories. A great example is The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. The majority of it is about and from the point of view of Harry Dresden, but there are short stories that pop into other character's heads and hearts. When an author builds a complex world I really enjoy exploring different points of view.

I am reading the second of a Duolingo by Octavia E. Butler. Earlier this year, I read Parable of the Sower. Now I am reading Parable of the Talents. I am reading for the future selection for our Time Challenge.

I really enjoyed the Parable of the Sower and the Talents. Apparently there was going to be a third book in the series, but it was never written.

I agree. It seems like some publishers want to stretch out the story so they can sell more books.

Vicki Willis | 510 comments I love series too. I read some longer ones, but also have enjoyed some trilogy types too.

One of my favorites it the Harry Bosch series. It has been going on so long, he is retired and another character is the main and he is used as a consultant now. I still love it!

I also love the Stephanie Plum series. It has been going on so long every book is the same formula now. I always read the new one around Thanksgiving and it feels like home to me.

Stephanie Plum books are so funny. Great for when you have a book hangover from something dark.

Sonya | 18 comments I enjoy series because it takes the guess work out of what to read next. I'm currently invested in the ACOTAR series.

Catsalive | 182 comments I like a trilogy but anything longer makes me think twice about starting them. I prefer to see the same characters throughout the story.

When I am in a slump I especially like series, because I can just keep reading the series til I am ready to read other books again. I especially like crime fiction, and that genre has some excellent long series.

Same. I know Commissario Brunetti, from Donna Leon's books, is getting old, and ought to stay retired, but I still read her new ones because I like checking in with Brunetti. Even when the detective is not exactly a friend they have associates, like Archie Goodwin in the Nero Wolfe books, that I enjoy reading about.

Catsalive | 182 comments Mystery series like that, no worries as they are all discreet, the longer the better. Series like The Wheel of Time, 14 600+p books, where it's all one long story, they're the ones I think twice about now & am unlikely to start.
