Re Jim's upcoming theme:

Some discussion about tackling this and it seems some options might be:

1) Just leave it as it is.

2) Nominating 4 songs (just for this theme) - i.e. two pairs of two. - maybe go with just the two (if you're struggling) or four (if you're spoilt for choice).

3) Do two rounds (403a and 403b?), each consisting of the usual two nominations per poster.

Any thoughts or maybe some other options???

I just thought that splitting it into two rounds would give us more manageable playlists and points distribution. And give us an extra week of a theme while we're all thinking of new ideas.

So Ren is something of an internet sensation. Hitting millions of views for his video 'Hi Ren' and subsequently securing a number 1 album in the most independent way possible. I'm fully on board the Ren bandwagon, the album is one dimensional and tough to listen through but never less than interesting and once he starts writing songs Ren should only get bigger. This is his retro homage to the Beastie Boys and is a lot of fun.

I don't care what you think. They're called Sex Machineguns and the album is called 'Runaway Train from Hell' Runaway. Train. From. Hell. Yes, 12yo me is wetting himself and xxyo me is pretty much fully on board as well. This one's called Metal Taxman.

Hi Duke I've heard of 8D audio, listened to somebody 'banging' on the nearest door, scared the crap out of me. Not heard of any songs in 8D though.

Agree with Helen and KJS regarding the length of the playlist.

No, the point is that the songs are different, but have the same titles. Unless you mean one of the two different songs happens to be a cover of something else.

Helen's right about the playlist length. Split it into two sessions. Maybe hold back on round two for a few weeks.

Hadn't heard of 8D audio, but having checked what it means, it would be difficult to be sure if it was 8D or just speaker oscillating stereo unless you actually know or research the track to find out. You could always include that kind of stereo effect as well.

Looking back to last year, Round 1 went up for nominations on December 11th and voting closed for Round 5 on January 29th this year. Does that suit everyone if we repeat mid-Dec to end-Jan?

On the 8D audio thing, from the great world wide web, it's basically this:

8D audio is created by combining equalization techniques, panning and effects. Equalization is the process of changing the balance of different frequencies in audio. Panning, in short, is the technique of distributing sound on various audio channels. Combined, these components give the listener a sensation of having the music playing 'inside' their head.

Works best with headphones apparently. There are quite a few well known tracks on YT that have been done in 8D. I've been listening to New order's Blue Monday in 8D....it's different!


And finally.....i have a problem with YT atm, i'm getting blocked from using it because i use Adblock. Has anybody has been getting those pop ups along the lines of "Adblockers violate YT's term of service" Essentially, they're trying to con folks into taking out a monthly subscription or be forced to switch off the adblocker.....neither of which i wish to do. I'm not going to be bullied by some yank bean counter...so does anybody know how to get around it? I had been able to click on the little 'x' to get rid of it, but now it's blocked me solid.

Duke - I had the same problem but after trying several different blockers this one worked in chrome.

I have downloaded Ublock extension that i found out about on reddit, just waiting for it to be updated to the latest script, and i'll see if that works. American just don't get it.....we're not all yanks accustomed to their capitalistic ways!

I've seen 3 minute vids have as many as 6 ads on it in the past!

Oh...I've got that one...didn't do anything! I guess it's different for each user i presume?

I wonder if because have this one and Ublock extension..they're blocking each other?! I'm not technically inclined with PCs.....but i ain't giving in to You Tube!

Hi Duke, try and disable Adblock Plus. When you're on Youtube, look at the top of the screen, you should see an icon in the shape of a jigsaw piece. Click on that icon, and I think it should give you the option to disable Adblock Plus for this website. Once you have done this, Adblocker Ultimate should work. I've tried it and it definitely does. Thanks KJS. :-)

Yay! That's done it! I forgot i had both Adblock Plus and Ultimate, then downloaded Ublock extension for YouTube. Did what you said, disable Plus, re enabled Ultimate..and that fixed it. Superb. Thanks Nick..and KJS! :)

I listen on mobile through an app called NewPipe that blocks all ads and let's you listen with YouTube running in the background. Still working so far. Worth searching if you listen on your phone. For desktop I think the Brave browser with adblock is still working. Brave is a pretty good browser as well.
