Booknblues | 12085 comments Jen K has started reading Fire Weather: A True Story from a Hotter World and since I took it out from the library, I thought I would start it as well and I'm on about page 15.

Anyone who would like to join in is welcome.

Jen K | 3143 comments Glad to have company. Have you read Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands? It is also set in Fort McMurray but really at the oil camps. Interesting to learn more about the actual families living there and more about environment.

If you do, join in.

Jen K | 3143 comments My poor mom's life is a little bit up in flames and I made her listen to a good chunk of this during a long car ride yesterday. Not sure if it made her feel better or worse but it is due back to the library on Monday so I appreciated her listening.

Lots of big side tangents but interesting lessons on the science of fire and climate change. I really can't imagine that this level of fire exists and it really didn't until recently. I definitely need to be more thoughtful in not supporting the petroleum companies but they really are systemic and pervasive at this point, all the cheap poly woods, poly clothes and plastic. I have been trying to be better in choices but it is overwhelming.

Booknblues | 12085 comments I'm still just at the beginning. Living in California, I am familiar with this kind of fire.

I am the part where he is talking about the equipment necessary to mine the pine tars and it is mind boggling. The expense and the devastation created by this kind of mining.

I've finished one book I was reading before I started this, so can focus a bit more on it.

I saw it and was interested, but I have trouble reading graphic novels.

On another note, this is a bit of a fail for me, because I was still only at about pg 100 and I have to return the book to the library, so I have to put it off until another time.
