Ann (annrumsey) | 16929 comments Amelia: October 5 11:34 pm texts that indicate Amelia went through with the Maggie challenges.

Amelia is a budding writer and she has a special relationship with her English teacher, Liv, also a writer. We get the impressions that Amelia is very talented. She ditches Sylvia and runs into Mr Woodhouse on the street on way to a Maggie party at Zadie's house. The encounter was a bit strange. Amelis is kissed and kisses Dylan at the party and meets Zadie's step father, not a likable man.

Kate November 27 Kate and Detective Thompson go through the boxes of emails, texts and other personal notes from Amelia's electronics. It is hard going and oddly the headmaster of Grace Hall sends email notes that have a strange tone to them. And Kate discovers Amelia's paper on the book she was accused of plagiarizing, it isn't the same as the one presented as her work and that raised the red flags for cheating. Lew discovers the Birds of a Feather website with the underwear clad students posing, including a way too young for this Amelia.
Creepy Daniel, the aggressive partner from work calls and leaves a message congratulating Kate on getting the big account that he wanted (it doesn't seem quite right as a congratulatory note)

gRaCeFULLY October 10 more gossip, more texts

Amelia October 14 Dylan is in Amelia's house late one afternoon and they connect together and chat about their relationship (sort-of) Amelia has questions, Dylan mostly avoids asking or answering any.
Weird noise in the house, call 911, but Amelia is startled to realize it is Kate, home early and receptive to talking with Amelia until she realizes she has to go babysit.
Amelia is ducking out of school and realizes it is Ian assigned to take her suggestive pictures.

Kate gets a note from Daniel about missing a summer associates party.

Kate Nov 28 Kate stays up all night reading the texts and emails, and finds some more hatred. Lew comes over and convinces Kate he needs to know who Amelia's dad is, it is Daniel, and not someone Kate ever liked. They vist Grace Hall and encounter guarded doors, new security and a faculty that can't talk to them about Birds of a Feather or the Maggies, and circumstantial evidence that the first detective, Molina may have been influenced by one of the parents at the school. Adele Goodwin, Zadie's mother is the person who came to Kate's house and pried a bit about what was going on. Too coincidental.
Kate confronts Liv the English teacher and discovers that there is a way another student who was a Maggie could have set up Amelia to have cheated by substituting a different paper for the one Amelia actually wrote.
and big revelation, Kate finds out that the Dylan Amelia was in love with is a girl. Liv was very helpful even while not being able to talk about it all.

Amelia October 19 9:52 pm more texts, Amelia is feeling like the world is closing in on her, but she has Dylan.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16929 comments There are plenty of people to dislike and plenty of moments when Amelia could have talked to her Mom or someone else. The book doesn't just make you want Amelia to decide on different actions, it makes you yearn for it, and to agonize that she doesn't.
The parallel story lines of Kate's getting pregnant, Amelia questioning who her Dad is, the texts to both of them about "who is your Daddy" and calling both of them names, are like both of them are being bullied and not in a subtle way.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9484 comments Yes, many unanswered questions here, hope I'm not jumping ahead:

Who is Ben? I no longer believe he is who he says he is.
Who is sending the texts to Kate?
Who is sending the texts to Amelia?
Are teachers/administration aware of the Maggies, and why aren't they doing anything about it?
Why isn't Amanda talking to Kate? (I know the answer to this but I just don't like it.) I agree Ann, Amelia's reluctance to confide in her mom gets more agonizing as the story continues. If I were the mom of a teenaged girl while reading this I would be going nuts and probably driving my teen nuts too.
