Anders | 28 comments I was redirected to this folder by a librarian.

Here is the original thread, posted in Book & Author Page Issues:

The problem I’m trying to solve is simple: The author page titled «Yongey Mingyur» should be changed to «Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche». That’s all. Hope someone can help me with this.

Thanks!

annob [on hiatus] (annob) | 4048 comments Hi,
from what I understand Rinpoche is a honorific title, and as such should not be added to the author name on Goodreads.

Please see Goodreads policy for author names, section 'Suffixes and prefixes for authors names':

Anders | 28 comments Hi,

I see your point, but there is an exception to this policy:

«The only exceptions are those where the author is known primarily by a name that includes the honorific:

Example:

Mahatma Gandhi (not Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi»

This is absolutely applicable to this case.

He is not known as Yongey Mingyur anywhere outside of Goodreads. He is always referred to as Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, meaning that «the author is known primarily by a name that includes the honorific», as it is stated in the manual.

annob [on hiatus] (annob) | 4048 comments I've been a member for more than 5 years, and never seen a new exception being made. As an example of an author that is well known outside of Goodreads with his honorific is Sir Walter Scott. On Goodreads, his author name is "Walter Scott" only, without the Sir even if it is printed on his books.

Anders | 28 comments *sigh*

I don’t get these rules. Is it really so hard to change the author page? Honestly I feel like the manual supports my arguments.

And clearly there are exceptions.
Here are two of several author pages with «Rinpoche» in the title:

Here is yet another example, this one is even a verified Goodreads author…
