Fried Green Tomatoes is such a classic. I loved the book and the movie. They did a good job adapting it.

We have Always Lived in the Castle is fabulously gothic and weird.

Bel Canto is and was, just beautiful to me. Not sure why; but I just loved it. It was like reading with "rose-colored lenses"... I refuse to see flaws. Ya know?

Again; Good luck and happy reading!!

Thanks for the insights; I'm looking forward to starting. I've a few oldies on here.

I'm can't wait to read Demon Copperhead and I'm hope Thomas Hardy isn't too long for me, and that my interest doesn't get lost in it early on. I haven’t read him before. Fingers crossed 🤞

I've enjoyed a few of your selections, Ruth.... Jane Eyre, Far from the Madding Crowd, We Have always Lived in the Castle, The Bell Jar. Great list.

message 15: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie | 708 comments Several 5 star reads of mine here, and several read many times classics. Pride and Prejudice is on a 99 cent sale on Kindle. I already have the Jane Austen collection on kindle (was also real cheap) or I'd get it.

Butterflycager | 38 comments Ooh, you've got some good ones on here. I loved Fried Green Tomatoes and In The Woods and Bel Canto, and I have The Cloisters on my own challenge list. Hope you have a fantastic reading year!

I've just finished Shuggie Bain. Are they similar? I'm thinking they will be.

I'm going to be reading before the month is out; I've heard it's meant to be like David Copperfield, but I think it's going to have a lot of comparisons to Shuggie Bain, which was a tough read, but beautifully written.

I'm about to start Morgan's Run. It's a whopper, 800+ pages. It's based on a true story, the MC was a real man, the author's ancestor. It will be interesting!

message 33: by Karol (new)

Karol | 749 comments I loved Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe when I read it last year (or year before). I hope you like it just as much.

Bram Stoker's Dracula is still frightening, although when I read it years ago I found I had to get myself in the right mood for it. It doesn't move quickly, as I recall, but the mental images created in my mind by his words were soooo creepy.

Hi Karol, I'm excited about FGTATWSC, I saw the movie years ago.
I read Dracula years ago and it was slow but I want to really read more classics this year, so I have included this.
I really love the old B&W movie withbBela Lugosi, very eerie and creepy.

Best of luck in your own challenge 😊
