The province of Ernad in the midland area of Malabar. Mostly in the town of Nilambur on the banks of the Chaliyar river, the seat of a rich landowning noble clan, the somewhat nondescript village of Pookottur that became the site of a historic battle, and the lush Pullangode valley in the Western Ghats that was home to ethnic tribes and British rubber planters.
