I have A Winter's Promise penciled in for the annual challenge (1st in a quartet) so let me know how you like it. Also considering Legend that a friend really likes. My monthly challenge book (Priest of Bones) was also an option but no way will I be on that task this month.

Unfortunately I disagree with the majority. I had a hard time keeping up with the political maneuvering. Disliked the constant physical abuse and forced isolation of the main character. AND found the book just too long with no plot advancement.

If you try it, let me know what YOU thought. So many people DID like it.

Vicki | 1538 comments It seems Almeta is not here to remind us to get our plan ready for next month. I took a bit of a break from reading but have since picked it back up. I'm way behind in the annual challenge goal but I don't want to overwhelm myself either so I have these 4 books (almost) picked out for July:

Group Read: Clytemnestra
Monthly Challenge: The Windup Girl or Rebecca
Annual challenge: A Winter's Promise
Annual challenge: The Winter of the Witch

Hello Cherie, It is good to see you here also. I am having a bit of a struggle getting back into the swing of things. Can't remember how to get in to certain files, but THEN I remember an HTML code without hesitation!

My wounds are getting better. Seems as though that last bit just wants to stay pink and irritated. I must practice patience. Lost 77 pounds during my long stay away. Feel so much better physically. Hope I can keep it off.

Will I be seeing you during the Toppler?

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Hi Almeta,

No, I have not been group toppling this year. My reading/listening is all over the place, mostly listening to series available via Libby from my library, and as I have discovered crocheting again, after AmyK taught herself to do it.

Interesting about HTML. I can still remember two-finger commands for an early CADD program and I cannot remember how to access some files at all. Our work group has to write OKR's quarterly and there is a tool to access the current and old files, but once a quarter only makes it more frustrating to remember how to access the tool and write the stupid things. I have written my last though. As of Sept 30th, I will be officially RETIRED - after working for the same company for 43 years.

43 years? That's a long time!!!

Sure hope to see you around GoodReads some time though.

I'm retired also; that's why I read so much. Enjoy your retirement.

Thanks, Janice.
It does not seem real yet. I have 5 weeks to take care of so many tasks before all of the plans expire (health, vision, dental, etc). I have to apply for Medicade as soon as the HR folks send me some form to submit with my request. I got my glasses fixed (fell down 3 weeks ago and smashed them up pretty well). I have been wearing my old ones, and I can really tell the difference now that I am wearing the ones I got last year. I have a new appointment on Wednesday. Aghhhh. So much to think about. I need to buy a computer!

I've got Catherine House for the group read (I could not resist that cover!)
Shady Hollow for the monthly challenge,
Senlin Ascends for fun/ the annual challenge I won't finish. I want to keep going with the series.
Maybe Elektra?
Maybe something else. September has a big book fair here

Roz | 4534 comments I haven't been to this thread in a while. Wow!
I did notice your absence, Almeta, but thought you were just being quiet and doing your thing. I'm glad to hear you're on the mend and getting your health back.
Retirement! Yay, Cherie! You've worked for a long time. I think the best thing about retirement (3 years now) is planning my days around the things I want to do rather than have to do. Some days I can do absolutely nothing except read. Less stress.
Enjoy!

message 46: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Thank you all for the congratulations on my upcoming retirement.
I am still a little shocked and trying to get my head around it all.

My daughter mentioned how strange it will be for her not to call my office number, then my home number and then my cell phone number (in that order) when she wants to get a hold of me.

Kristie | 19173 comments Man, I could practically just copy and paste last month's plans for this month. I hardly read anything this month. I do have two that I'm in the middle of and I'm still hoping I finish them both. They are my monthly group read and challenge reads.

message 50: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59930 comments I feel like I've been dragging my feet this month two and I think that's because there were three books I gave up on.
