I loved the premise and that cover looks super interesting! Unfortunately, I just wasn't that enamoured with the story. 457 pages and felt so much like I slogged through something twice that length. It felt very wordy and all over the place. I mean I understand why it had to be like that; the protagonist is a bit of a mess even while she's a whizz at putting information together to solve the case. The problem is information do not always come her way. Hence, the very slow read... for me.
So many interesting bits in this book though: all the different sentient beings from insect-looking ones to rock-like ones, funny bits about nonsensical human things from aliens' perspectives, and even witnessing an evolution of a being. All could be so mind-bogglingly fun but not for me.
