Anita Pomerantz | 9281 comments If you participated in one or both of the annual challenges this year, you've probably tallied up some participation points along the way. At your convenience, please report these to me via private message. Please keep the totals for each challenge separately. I will be spot checking them and entering them into our spreadsheet. They will be entered immediately in a different color immediately, and then when they revert to black that means they have been confirmed.

In addition, I am offering a new way for you to use your participation points if you wish. You may donate them (they will be removed from your total), and for every 100 points donated, I will donate $10 to a literacy charity selected by the donors.

If you wish to participate, please message me with the following information:
1. # points you wish to donate (I will be pro-rating up so no need to donate in a specific amount - - if you want to donate 5, that's fine).
2. Your nomination for a charitable organization that serves literacy
3. If you are okay with your donation being denoted publicly at PBT

Donors will be invited to vote for the charity they wish to support. I'd love to get this done by year end, so please submit your donation info by 12/21, and I'll let the voting go from the 22nd-the 30th.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11071 comments This is very generous of you Anita! This was a good tag year for me and I'm happy to contribute. I have no idea how many I have, but I'll figure it out this weekend.

I always donate to my local library, but it's a government organization so that's probably not what you had in mind. Is there a list of potential organizations from when you mentioned this at the beginning of the year?

Robin P | 5753 comments Could someone please summarize here how the points were awarded for the two games? I have tracked everything I read for myself but have no memory of points being involved. I'd prefer not to have to look back through all the rules. For instance, if Joanne read all the Birthday books, does that mean they are 3 points each? (Sounds like a 3rd-grade math problem, "if Joanne gets 45 points, how many books did she read?")

Birthday Candles - 5 points for each candle blown out. Read all 15 you get 75 points. JoAnne read 9 books.

Subdue - you won participation points with certain rolls in Clerk and also I believe tag matching. Not sure if you earn any above Clerk in rolls or advantages. You were to track those as you went because there was also times you could spend points to move ahead - again in Clerk only I recall.

Joy D | 10090 comments Theresa, in Subdue, the participation points continued into the other rounds beyond Clerk. It may be difficult to reconstruct if you have not been tracking all along, but it's not impossible.

Good to know. Ursula made sure I rarely and I mean rarely hit anything that gave me any advantage. And I had very very very few tag matches. I did spend 3 points at one point -- total I earned in Subdue is 12 points. I was tracking ...

Joanne read 9 books, 5 points per book 9X5=45

Joy D | 10090 comments The following roll combinations and rules involved participation points:

2-1: You may use up to 3 of your participation points to move yourself ahead up to 3 spaces.

4-4: Receive 4 participation points for the next book you read/review.

On levels beyond Clerk, these rolls were determined by two adjacent rolls.

Rule # 5. If you read a book that fits the monthly tag, you will earn 3 participation points. You must finish and review the book during the month of the particular tag.

Note: The tag is the one in effect when you LAND on the book, not when you finish it.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12571 comments Thanks for that Joy, I had forgotten I rolled a 4-4!

I don't think I got any of those, as rewards instead I used existing points for the 2-1.

Thanks Joy. That's very helpful.

I used a 🎗️symbol every time I had a matching tag, to make it easier to count them later.

I'm not sure I even had any 4-4 combinations.

KateNZ | 4100 comments This is such a lovely idea, Anita (and not for the first time).

I got the full 75 points for Birthday (if that’s what the total is). I will PM you with donation details.

message 14: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12924 comments I was actually going to try to figure this one out. So I’m so glad the thread popped up. Please let me know if I need to PM you privately. I earned 75 participation points for birthday, for blowing at all 15 candles. And for Sidhu, I earned 12 participation points. Although I used six of them to move. So I don’t know if my total for counting becomes 12 or six. But that is my story. Thrilled to get that off my Goodreads to do list. Both challenges were so fun.

Anita Pomerantz | 9281 comments I plan to post the voting for the donation later today, but the choices are going to be:

Reading is Fundamental
Reading Partners
Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

So those of you who donated, can start thinking about your vote.

So far, 3804 points ($380.40 from me, but I will likely round up to closest $5 increment - - so $385) have been donated which is amazing, but there's still time!

Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments Just hopped on GR for the first time in a while, and this just warms my heart!!! Added in my participation points and voted :) I hope we can use "any" participation points (mine are all old as I haven't been writing reviews this year).

I have no idea how many points I got from Birthday or challenges this year, lol. That sounds like a project for another day.

Yes any participation points work! They don't need to be earned this year.
