Carolyn | 9840 comments Time of the Child by Niall Williams Time of the Child by Niall Williams takes us back to the small Irish town of Faha in the 1960s a few years on from This Is Happiness and is just as beautifully written.

The Merriest Misters by Timothy Janovsky
A bit like Tim Allen's The Santa Clause movies, but with a gay couple at the helm. Could have been memorable had the couple not been so whiny.

Carolyn | 9840 comments Still working my way through J.D. Robb's In Death series featuring Detective Eve Dallas one book at a time. I may catch up one day in the distant future!

Celebrity in Death (In Death, #34) by J.D. Robb Celebrity in Death #34 is a good one with the death of a cast member in the movie production of one of Eve's famous cases. Less dramatic than some but with an engrossing mystery and plenty of interaction between the main characters.

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments The Reunion Dinner by Jesse Q. Sutanto is the second "busybody" story in Amazon's collection of six. They are short, quirky mysteries that I read as an entertaining break between books.

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments On a more serious note, I'm glad I decided to give Orbital by Samantha Harvey a try. It's on the Booker Prize short list, and I'm happy to say I can see why they chose it.

Aesop's Fables A New Translation by Aesop

Good, but repetitive after a point. Might work better if read at random, which I did not have the luxury of doing as it was an ARC.

Carolyn | 9840 comments The Players by Minette Walters The Players by Minette Walters is an excellent follow up to The Swift and the Harrier. Set in 1685, in the aftermath of the protestant Duke of Monmouth's failed attempt to depose his catholic uncle, James II, it tells of the King's brutal revenge against those involved in the rebellion. Well written and researched with great characters and a touch of espionage and romance.

A contemporary drama with a middle-aged protagonist and an episodic writing style. Interesting!
