I always enjoy Australian Aboriginal author Tony Birch's excellent writing, often short stories, and his recent novel, Women & Children is another winner. This takes place in a Melbourne suburb in the 1960s, and although he says this isn't him and his family, I suspect it's awfully close. Great read.

I'm not a reader of Oscar Wilde, but I enjoyed his short fairy tale, or whatever you'd call it, The Fisherman and his Soul, which was a recent Goodread group The Short Story Club choice.

How to Summon a Fairy Godmother by Laura J. Mayo
As fabulous as the cover! One scene left me a bit uncomfortable, otherwise, I'd have gone even higher in my rating. A great option for cosy fantasy lovers, except for the animal cruelty part.
