Jennifer Worrell (jenniferworrell) | 12 comments It was a novel and had a yellow fabric cover with a cartoon, possibly of one of the ladies, stamped on it. I read it in the 80s but I'm sure it's older than that.

Jennifer, are the two elderly ladies friends or is the wall a barrier between next-door neighbors? Where do they get the cans from?

Story's location/ country?

Google Books preview of Suds in Your Eye by Mary Lasswell - Ayshe's suggestion:
- There are different cover images.
Quotes from the book:
- ... walk along Island Avenue slowly. That is, until she saw the wall. Then she came to a dead stop. Is was the most spectacular wall she had ever seen: it was made entirely of beer cans. 'My, my!' mused Miss Tinkham...
- ... cans kep' pilin' up so fast I never closed an eye till I figgered out some way to use 'em up.
- ... cans with sand! Got me a funnel an' stuck it in a hole, an' filled every one of 'em! Then I laid me some boards an' poured me some concrete, an' stood the cans up in it an' let 'em set. ...

They are friends, or at least cordial, as I recall. I would say it takes place in US or Britain, and I think they got the cans from their husbands.

Jennifer Worrell (jenniferworrell) | 12 comments Oooo maybe Suds. Let me get that at the library and I'll report back.

Sounds like the genre is fiction - comic fiction. "Humor" as a genre is more along the lines of joke books, or columns by humor columnists like Dave Barry or Art Buchwald.

Jennifer Worrell (jenniferworrell) | 12 comments You cats are FABULOUS. Suds in Your Eye was it! Glad I caught up with it again, it was a delight. Thank you thank you!
