Allison I have no idea if I'm just reading too deeply on this or if it was done intentionally, but I tried googling it to no avail.
When I first started reading the series, the first thing that struck me about Cersei is that her name sounds a whole lot like the word "Caesar". Later, I noticed that Tyrion also happens to sound like "tyranny". I like how one of the most politically-steeped families in the series have names that resemble chaotic and questionable forms of rule, but I can't make any connection for Jaime, so I'm unsure as to if these connections were done on purpose. Thoughts?

Jordan I doubt it's Martin foreshadowing, though it may have been intentional on their father's part. Interesting idea though....

Holly I always thought that Cersei was a take on Circe.

Me too

I've never heard of Circe before, but after looking it up, that also makes a lot of sense

Brent What a load of crap.

LOL are you commenting that in all threads now? Obvious troll is obvious :-D

Ha, yes. Once, I wrote up a review for one of the books and then had to go back in to edit, upon realizing that I'd inadvertently written "Circe" instead of "Cersei."

Aurora That's interesting. I wonder if any other names follow this pattern, or is it just the Lannister ones?

This struck me when I was reading a book about the Borgias. Rodrigo Borgia had a son Jofré/Gioffre who married a lady called Sancha/Sancia. There are different spellings for both names.

Terrence Good question! I think you may be reading to much into things though, but of course I could be wrong!
