i still can't believe there's a fourth book in the "i am not a serial killer series." i haven't got around to it yet but it looks a++

Diana | 141 comments I cannot waaaaaiiiiiit for Lair of Dreams. I loved The Diviners so much.

Walton's sequel to The Just City, The Philosopher Kings, just came in at the library for me. I'm also picking up The Walls Around Us today.

Leah Nymja | 121 comments apparently this week is a week of books for me--i just started a court of thorn and roses. i was admittedly a little hesitant to pick it up since i didnt care for throne of glass, but it's pretty interesting so far!

i am also super fucking stoked for the 3rd Cainsville book and 8th Kate Daniels book, like i will straight up disappear.

Other than getting stuck into American Gods, I am thinking about reading The Diviners? Like it's sitting here on my phone all ready to go, so I figure I should give it a shot.

I know! I might have screamed when I found out he was continuing it. John Cleaver is one of my favorite characters because he's SUCH A LITTLE CREEP and yet I still want to cheer for him.

And Hannah, tooootally read The Diviners. It's so good.

the fact that he's so messed up is definitely part of the appeal for me. dan wells is a hell of a writer to make me empathise with him that's for sure

I just finished reading Golden Son (excellent read) and this week I'll start reading Scarlet by Steven Lawhead and the Red Queen. I'm also doing a reread of Traitor by Matthew Stover and easily enjoying it again - such gorgeous prose.

Yes! I'm glad you liked it. How much did that end fuck you up, though? I'm so antsy for the third book to ruin my life some more.

message 209: by Diana (new)

Diana | 141 comments Currently reading Claire of the Sea Light, which is gorgeous. Next in line is Uprooted, at long last! The library has H is for Hawk and Crimson Bound on hold for me. It's going to be a good reading weekend.

It's definitely on my list of Things To Read Soon! I am going through a phase of 'ugh who has the time for reading' right now, i will hopefully cycle back to 'read five books in a week' again soon

I loved the book, but the ending didn't hit me as hard as I was expecting it to. Maybe it was because I knew there was a cliffhanger and it was kinda overhyped to me? IDk. Just didn't floor me like some other ones. I'm looking forward to Darrow kicking ass in the next one :D

message 212: by Kael (new)

Kael (mordreds_girl) | 134 comments Well finished the Eyes trilogy yesterday, just as good as I remembered, though for some reason I thought so of the stuff in the third book happened in the second....

Now I'm starting Rebel Belle.

message 213: by Jess (new)

Jess (jlko89) | 112 comments Reading the second book in Bec McMaster's London Steampunk romance series, Heart of Iron. The first was entertaining enough. I think I might end up making my way through all five of her books if it keeps up.

I'm finally listening to JKR's The Cuckoo's Calling for this month's audiobook. I like it so far!

message 214: by Kael (new)

Kael (mordreds_girl) | 134 comments Finished Rebel Belle and I enjoyed it, a nice frothy read.

Now finally onto last month's book Uprooted...

message 215: by Shruti (new)

Shruti (shrutireads) | 2 comments Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. figured it was about time I picked this up.

right now it's making me feel- curious, frustrated and a little betrayed

message 216: by Jess (new)

Jess (jlko89) | 112 comments Finished up most of Bec McMaster's London Steampunk romance series last week. The fourth book went and got itself checked out in the middle of my reading binge, so I still have that one to read. The series was no Parasol Protectorate, but it was pretty good!

I'm currently trying to tackle Brandon Sanderson's Elantris. I tried reading it earlier in the summer and dropped it because I was being lazy. I've crossed the first 100 pages hurdle, so I think that won't be a problem this time around.

message 217: by Diana (new)

Diana | 141 comments H is for Hawk was marvelous but I had to read it slowly because it hurt. Now having somewhat of a palate cleanse with Crimson Bound!

message 218: by Diana (new)

Diana | 141 comments My "reading at work book" right now is Alpha, which is quite fun. I love Rucka in general as an author (most of my favorite comics are by him), and his thriller novels tend to be fun, smart, and satisfying. This one is about a terrorist event in a theme park, a set-up I appreciate, being a fan of Disney World!

message 219: by Kael (new)

Kael (mordreds_girl) | 134 comments So I tried to read 'The Monsters of Templeton' but despite the fact that I got a good ways in, it just wasn't gripping me the way a good book should. So moving on to 'Winterblaze' by Kristen Callihan.

Leah wrote: "i'm about to read Queen of the Tearling for the first time since i am apparently a masochist"

yesssssssssssss. I'm so excited for this.

Also I just finished Cruel Beauty, which was an absolute delight (especially after the disappointment of the Kiss of Deception) and I'll finish up Scarlet sometime this week hopefully.

message 223: by Jess (new)

Jess (jlko89) | 112 comments Finished The Cuckoo's Calling audiobook last night and ended up enjoying it a lot. Think I'll grab the second book on my next visit to the library.

I'm now listening to this month's book, Station Eleven, and I finally got my hands on a previous book club book, Uprooted by Naomi Novik. Better late than never, right?

message 224: by Diana (new)

Diana | 141 comments Victoria, I just finished Crimson Bound, Hodge's book after Cruel Beauty. It was lovely, but I didn't enjoy it as much as Cruel Beauty. Cruel Beauty was just...very up my alley.

Now onto The Buried Giant! Not sure I'm going to be able to find Station Eleven (it's v popular), but An Ember in the Ashes FINALLY came in on hold for me at the library. :)

Kael (mordreds_girl) | 134 comments Well Winterblaze and Evernight (the fifth Darkest London book) we wonderfully good. I like how Winterblaze fooled you into thinking it was going to be one plot, but then it turned into another; and Evernight was just *good*.

Now on to American Gods, finally.

I did pick it up because you guys kept talking about it, and it's right up my alley. It reminds me a bit of the Southern Vampire Mysteries, but much faster paced and without Sookie's "let me detail every goddamn thing in the universe I did today" narration.

message 231: by Dreams At Dusk (new)

Dreams At Dusk (dreamsatdusk) | 39 comments The Thousand Names, by Django Wexler, first of the Shadow Campaigns series. Military fantasy and really enjoying it so far.

message 232: by [deleted user] (new)

I have just shamelessly read the second and third Kate Daniels books today and I'm debating on starting the fourth. Obviously I'm in love and if you see my self-control, tell it to come home haha

I'm in the same boat! Just wrapped up with the third and I'm definitely planning on starting #4 tonight. I almost want to wait since someone has the fifth book checked out at the library, but it's so good, I can't stop!

I got the cell-enabled version of the Kindle when I broke down and bought one last year due to lots of travel for work. It has made me a menace.

Jess (jlko89) | 112 comments Reading The Devil's Only Friend by Dan Wells, the fourth John Cleaver book. One of my favorite horror series.

message 243: by Diana (last edited Sep 01, 2015 03:14PM) (new)

Diana | 141 comments Midway through The Secret History of Wonder Woman (so juicy!) and just started A Discovery of Witches (distracting because the protagonist has my name).

ALSO my deck of The Raven's Prophecy Tarot shipped today and I'm hugely excited. HMU if you want a reading, I intend to play with it until the end of time.

Jess (jlko89) | 112 comments Finished The Martian audiobook yesterday, which I loved, and the final London Steampunk book I missed, Forged by Desire, which was also great!

I've started Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson, but it's been slow going since it always takes me at least 75 pages before I'm properly sucked into a new world of his. I've got Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray waiting for me (omg!) but Sarah J. Maas's Queen of Shadows came out yesterday and my GR timeline is all abuzz about it, sooo I feel like I should skip off to go get that one and save the new Diviners book for next week. Also snagged a hardcover copy of Scott Westerfeld's Afterworlds for like $4 two weeks ago, so that's also waiting for me in my to-read pile...

re: Brandon Sanderson, would you say the 75 page thing is applicable to Mistborn too? I really want to get into these books but the intro is kind of slow-moving for me

Oh yes. It took me a few chapters to get into Mistborn. Once Keslier starts training Vin, it gets a lot more interesting, but I don't think I got really hooked into it until Elend showed up, which might be around the 100 page mark?

His style is so weird. Now that I've read a good chunk of his books, I know they're going to be great, non-stop reads once I'm settled into the world, and yet they're all SO HARD to get into at first.

message 247: by Kael (new)

Kael (mordreds_girl) | 134 comments Well just finished reading Smoke and Mirrors by Neil Gaiman, and it is still sort of amazing how Gaiman can go from heart-wrenchingly sweet to terrifying, sometimes even in the same story. Snow, Glass, Apples by far is still one of my favorite stories by him.

Now onto Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely series!

message 248: by Jess (new)

Jess (jlko89) | 112 comments I've started Ilona Andrews' third Edge novel, Fate's Edge. Not too far into it yet.

I'm listening to the Queen of the Tearling and hating it more and more as I get deeper into the book. I should probably just drop it, but I haven't had a good hate read in a while...

message 249: by Leah (new)

Leah Nymja | 121 comments Queen of the Tearling is such a hateread for me, I'm about 16% in on that one and trying to muster the fortitude to continue.

And yes!!!!!! Fate's Edge is hands-down my favorite one in the series. (also you should check out their Innkeeper novella after you finish, some of the peeps from Edge show up in there!)

message 250: by Dreams At Dusk (new)

Dreams At Dusk (dreamsatdusk) | 39 comments I'm sensing I should probably avoid Queen of the Tearling like the plague*L*
