Clean Reads discussion

Have you entered any of the giveaways sponsored by authors or publishers? I received two emails for books on my want to read list but I am extremely Leary of anything that involves personal information. Has anyone else participated in these before? What is your experience? It would be nifty to get free books.

I always enter them. I haven’t had any problems with spam from them. I’ve only won once but I still enter.

Readers have nothing to lose. From an author's point of view, we don't have any way to contact those who enter. I have seen some authors comment that they expected winners to feel an obligation to leave a review, but that is not implied anywhere in the deal.

Since this is all through Goodreads, I do not feel like it is sketchy. I have entered a million giveaways, but have never won any.

The only disadvantage I can think of is that I would feel like I should leave a good review. However, the one time I got a free book I didn't feel comfortable leaving a good review because of the content. I felt bad but I guess if they wanted me to leave a good review they could have kept it clean right?

I have entered a lot of the giveaways and won some of them. The first time I won I didn't get the email - I just got a book in the mail and had to figure out why. Eventually I realized I'd won a Goodreads giveaway.

I"ve entered quite a few but have never won anything. No spam from it but it does automatically put the book on your too be read list.

Linda that is funny. Totally something that would happen to me.
