This book is based on interviews Brendan O'Hea did with Judi Dench - about Dench's long career playing roles in Shakespeare plays.

The book is informative and delightful. 4.5 stars

Philip Marlowe #4. Marlowe is hired (in 1943) to find a wife who has apparently run off. This is another top-notch mystery by possibly the best author in the genre. I just love the way this guy writes. 5 stars.

Finished Lonely Vigils by Manly Wade Wellman. Three -- count 'em! three! -- occult detectives in one big story collection. This is some good ol' pulp writing from the 1930s through the '50s; Wellman was excellent at ringing changes on the types of stories found in the form.

Araych | 677 comments The Cold Blue Blood The Cold Blue Blood (Berger and Mitry, #1) by David Handler by David Handler

Berger & Mitry #1. Enjoyable and appealing mystery featuring an odd-couple pairing of a Jewish film critic (male) and a Black police lieutenant (female). This is the first in the series and I understand the characters need to be introduced but Handler took almost 90 pages to start the murder mystery part. I liked the book and I will follow up on the series. 3 stars -- would have been 4 with a shorter intro.

I love the last three posts: by putting a bit of information about the book, they encourage me to look further and maybe to read their reviews. I, unfortunately, tend to skip right by all the posts that say I read X book and here's my review

College and disappearance of a medical student - might be interesting
perfect blend of romance and Australian outback mystery/crime thriller = ditto
and this one really made me interested: Enjoyable and appealing mystery featuring an odd-couple pairing of a Jewish film critic (male) and a Black police lieutenant (female).

I'm working on Dirty Thirty by Janet Evanovich which is another in the Stephanie Plum series. so far, Plum has yet to have a car blow up on her, Morelli is away, so Ranger has a bigger part in the book, and I'm looking forward to the overnight stakeout with Stephanie’s mother and Grandma Mazur reveals three generations of women with nerves of steel and driving skills worthy of NASCAR champions.

I love Grandma Mazur - this is one of the few characters in a book who can make me laugh out loud

Elizabeth Holmes, however well-intentioned, hoodwinked a Who’s Who of America’s political, CEOs, scientific, and Silicon Valley’s elites into bankrolling her medical device that never worked.

I'm the same, CB, unless I know the reviewer and the book. I really appreciate people linking or writing out the titles, too, since I often can't see the covers very well.
