A midwife in late 1700s Maine takes it upon herself to investigate the death of a prominent citizen accused of rape. Good historical novel/courtroom drama/murder mystery.

Highly recommended. 4 stars

Finished Don't Fear the Reaper, which was excellent (though, if you're squeamish, it is gory in spots). Have started the third in the trilogy, The Angel of Indian Lake.

In this addition to the Nonna Maria series, the shrewd Italian grandmother has two goals: to foil an assassination and to help a young woman find the treasure left by her grandfather. The book works fine as a standalone.

Pleasurable cozy mystery. 3.5 stars

Falsely advertised as a Ruth Galloway mystery -- it isn't, she doesn't appear. Reminded me of Richard Osman's retiree detectives. I liked the cast, I liked the plot other than the solution to the murders. I liked it but I didn't love it. 3 stars.
